TL;DR: Arris SB TG1682 is the only cable modem leased out by Cox in the US. Still doesn't have the firmware update that Comcast pushed out 2 years ago that fixes the issue it has with 10/100 ports/NICs. Cox blames Arris while Arris blames Cox.
I did a quick search for the model number and found only one post addressing this in May of this year. I wanted to remind everyone who has been issued an Arris SB TG1682 (https://www.cox.com/residential/support/arris-tg1682.html) that it's still borked. If you're using it with any sort of device that has a 10/100 port, your speeds will be significantly reduced. I've had to turn my devices onto auto negotiation and put a Gigabit Ethernet switch in between the cable modem and my PC just so I can obtain over 20 Mbps Down. I'm currently using Premier package at 150D/10U. Wireless is completely fine on both 2.4 and 5, with 5 GHz exceeding what my current package is rated for.
I brought this up to COX and was directed to one of their lead supervising techs, who was quick to tell me that model is the only one they are currently leasing throughout the US and that they have had no complaints about it at all regarding this issue. I find that hard to believe considering Comcast had to address this 2 years ago with a firmware update. See forum post for reference (http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Your-Home-Network/TG1682G-Ethernet-Speed-Cap/m-p/2628666#M32550). I had the service rep tell me Arris was in charge of firmware updates. I then had an Arris rep tell me COX is in charge of the firmware update. So once again, no one wants responsibility and the consumer is left hanging out to dry with little options. Eventually I'll replace it with a better cable modem and router so I have better control over the devices. Until then, I'm stuck with this work around.
Have a great day everyone.
