[CATV] Closed Captioning and STARS

I have the cox contour 6 tuner box, had for about 4 months. my problem is that on ALL the STARZ nodes my CC is practically non existent, when it it, the "scripts"are visible for maybe a half a second, really to fast for my old eyes anyway. This is ONLY on the STARZ channels. When I called cox support they looked at the same channel on their contour and it displayed fine, had cox out today, tech agrees something is wrong, just no idea, says he is tossing it up the line. ALL OTHER CHANNELS appear fine other than STARZ. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Strange wire in DPQ3212?

Recently I accidentally dropped some paperclips into the case of my Cisco DPQ3212. I keep a box next to it for manual resets. It was just a few screws to open the case, so I opened it up to get them out. While doing so, I found a 2-3 inch insulated wire soldered to the board but going no where. It almost looked like the antenna you would see on a cheap remote controlled car. Anyone know what it might be? I can take and post photos if people want, but anyone else able to confirm? I don't want Cox to become upset if Im posting a part of their proprietary hardware.

Packet Loss - New cox customer w/Ultimate

I am a new Cox subscriber, I only have Internet (Ultimate package). I have an SB6182 modem and am experiencing 1-1.5% packet loss. It shows up whether I do a packet count of 100 or 10,000. Is this normal? I'm in the process of moving, and at the old house I have Time Warner Cable with an SB6141 and TWC's 30 Mbps / 5 Mbps package - see about 1-2% packet loss as well. Is this just normal? Two homes, two providers, two different modems - similar amount of packet loss. My SB6182 with Cox shows eight downstream channels, each with power level of between -2 dBmV and -6 dBmV with SNR 40-42 dB. Four Upstream channels with power level of 40.3 dBmV and doesn't deviate from that. The installer put an attenuator on the line where it comes in the house to lower upstream power levels.

[CA] New IP with Cox HSI

Sorry to bring this up here as I'm sure it's been hashed through over and over. Please point me to the threads explaining this. I presently have an aging connection here and use a Moto SB5101U. It's more then adequate for me but Cox is all but forcing me to move up to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. My problem is that I presently have an IP of: 72.220.228.xxx and that being a public IP I can FTP ( Port 21 ) into my box here at home from anywhere. I also use a handfull of over Port 8000 ports for the work I do. Can I expect the same kind of public IP when I upgrade to the new Cox HSI? I don't run a webserver ( Port 80 ) and I know that's blocked. But Port 9090 is not and I can get to this box using that kind Port. Thanks, I'm in El Cajon.

Looks like we have it again. COX is having some quite significant peering issues with nLayer & Level3. Essentially long haul traffic that flows through certain links are terrible for us in orange county. Can provide MTR's & Traceroutes to cox technicians.

[GA] Huge speed slow down after yesterday's winter storm?

The power went out several times here in the Middle Georgia area within the last 24 hours due to the winter storm that has affected most of the southern US. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but my Internet service is ridiculously slow and has been all day today. I can't seem to get higher than 300k/s on any downloads and even the simplest websites are taking ages to load. I've reset my router and modem several times throughout the day yet the problem stills persists. Is anyone else experiencing this in the Middle Georgia (Macon) area?

Cox billing issues

I switched from COX HSI to Verizon FiOs on 1/29/2014 and called Cox to cancel the same day. Disconnecting was fast, the service was cut during the call to cancel. I logged in my Cox account to check 2 days later, and found there are $40 "Equipment Charge" and $2.40 "TV Fees". I never had TV or phone services. I signed up Cox HSI Essential promotion at $34.99 2 year ago with my own cable modem. My monthly HSI was $45.99 at time of my cancellation after 2 price hikes. I called Cox about the $40 "Equipment Charge" and $2.40 "TV Fees" and was told it's Cox's mistake. My "due" on my online account became $27.59 after the call ($45.99 HSI minus partial month credit), I paid full on line. I checked my account yesterday, My "due" became $42.4. I called Cox again, and was told it's Cox mistake, credit will be issued. This morning I receive an email reminder of due $42.4 on 03/04/2014, I logged in my Cox account, the due is still $42.4. How long and how may calls do I need to have Cox correct billing errors? I was thinking about switching back to Cox at end of my Fios contract, now I have very mixed feeling about Cox.

Everyday I get this in my modem log then after a couple of weeks my modem with reset then reboot itself and start all over. This shows up everyday, but then when I check it the next day or 2 the previous days doesn't show but that days does show. It only started after the last firmware update. I almost want to say my levels are fine but I will let you all be the judge of that. [CA] Ultimate Tier Speeds in Southern California - Upgrades Coming?

$

Does anyone know if Cox plans to eventually increase our Ultimate tier speeds to match the speeds they offer in most of their other markets? Since last Fall we here in San Diego are officially getting (straight from Cox's website - http://ww2.cox.com/aboutus/policies/speedsusage.cox): Maximum download speed: 100 Mbps Maximum download speed with PowerBoost: 125 Mbps Maximum upload speed: 20 Mbps Maximum upload speed with PowerBoost: 25 Mbps BUT....nearly everyone else in Cox's service footprint got upgraded to: Maximum download speed: 150 Mbps Maximum download speed with PowerBoost: 188 Mbps Maximum upload speed: 20 Mbps Maximum upload speed with PowerBoost: 25 Mbps Somebody previously said something like it was due to bandwidth availability and infrastructure, but you would think that since the SoCal area is one massively populated metro region and is highly developed economically and infrastructure-wise that we'd get upgraded before places like Arkansas and Idaho. I think at this point only Virginia and SoCal have these slower speeds and everyone else got upgraded. Truly baffling.

[CA] +$5 Cox HSI upgrade offer for existing customers (Orange County,CA)

I'm currently on a 2-yr contract for Cox Preferred (25up/5dn). Although my contract isn't up for another 18 months, I received the following email: http://updates.cox.com/cgi-bin3/DM/t/e1dt0BXaCK80bIj05SS0Ef "Get faster Internet for $5 more/month (*intro pricing good for 6 month. Afterwards, regular pricing applies.)" Through this offer, Cox is offering me the next speed-tier (50dn/10up) for just +$5 more (vs the standard price of +$12) I don't need the faster internet, but if anyone else is on Cox Essential (3mb), this upgrade-offer would be a cheap way to get the next tier (for 6 months, anyway.)

[ALL] Cox Cloud Security

I've recently started using the Cox Cloud for backup. Out of an abundance of caution, I've avoided backing up financial data to their cloud since I'm not sure how secure that storage is. And, of course, I mean secure from hacking and not data loss. I suppose, as an option, I could encrypt those sensitive files before storing. I would appreciate any information or thoughts on this subject.

[LA] Lousy service in Walker, La

Have had to call for one problem or the other seven (7) times since Dec, 24, 2013, last outage on Feb, 11, 2013 from 8:25 pm to 1:30 am (5 hours) and the guy on the other end of the phone had the nerve to ask me to do a "diagnostic" on my end and that he would send someone out two days later, that after a 12% rate increase. Unacceptable. Now today my modem got remote reset twice at 10:47 am and 12:45 pm followed by 45 minutes of extra slow connections where I could hardly go past 1 Mbps, then it jumped to 23-25 Mbps till about 4:10 pm when it dropped again. Nice job Cox, getting better all the time. [att=1] :( :( :(
