Router Constantly Drops LAN and Wireless

I have the Cox HSI premier service and have always had great performance until recently. I have a Motorola SB6141 3.0 DOCS modem which is fairly new. I have no issue connecting to the internet with the computer connected to the cable modem directly. When I connect to a router I get a connection for either 5-10 minutes or sometimes longer before I have to power cycle the router. This is with my old Linksys EA6500 and the new router I just purchased the Netgear R7000 one of the most expensive ones you can get. I also exchanged the net gear for another and it did the same thing. I had Cox come out 3 times. Each time they fixed the signal by adding attenuators. The 2nd Cox guy discovered my cable inside the house was run along the electrical cable. He ran a new line direct to the cable modem. This helped for about a day?? He also said that he was having the same issue with a net gear router but not as bad. He said to change the wireless channel from auto to a different channel till you find one that isn't crowded. But why do I drop the LAN connections? Get this. All internet lights are on and LAN port lights are active. When the signal goes out the router still shows connected. Cable modem config shows plenty of signal strength etc. I am on MAC OSX Maverick. I used terminal to ping router and it only came back with 59 MB. Seems way to slow??? Any ideas? I totally think this is COX. I have set up many routers and home networks and have never had issues like this. I can't with to anything but ATT DSL WHICH IS MUCH SLOWER. Please Help !

[AZ] SB6182 Firmware/Software General Thoughts

So just got back from picking up a new SB6182 from Cox, always been partial to the Moto's and dang this thing is small. My trusty 6120 just wans not cutting it anymore and I wanted to upgrade a tier anyway. Getting 180 down and 20 up out of it here in east Tucson out of the box with it. Just wanted to know if SB6182-6.2.1.0-GA-01-69-NOSH was the latest firmware/software for the unit or will there be a overnight push to it sometime down the road or if any had any input on this thing. So far I like it.

[NE] Internet drops every couple hours

Moved into a new place and noticed that the internet drops out seemingly all the time. First suspect was the Cisco DPC3010 so it was replaced with my old SB6120. Having the same problems on this modem. I suspect that my signal is poor but am no expert. Do these levels look okay? I want to get a tech out to check the line but I'd like some opinions first. Here is a printscreen of the levels http://i.imgur.com/Yf9LM9O.png Whenever I notice the dropped connection I go over to the modem and see that the online light has gone off and it is trying to reconnect. This behavior was noticed on both modems. Thoughts, Advice? Thank you all

Traffic Shaping on Cox HSI

I'd like to share a story. I have the 25 megabit tier of Cox HSI. One of the things I enjoy most is watching Twitch.tv streams in my second monitor or roku. The girlfriend and I enjoy watching Amazon Instant Video on the Roku as well. A few months back these services stopped working as they always had. Twitch.tv became unwatchable. Any Source, High, or Medium quality stream setting would result in constant dropped audio and video. The only setting that works now is Low or Mobile which means that you're looking at something akin to a 56k modem video stream. Amazon Instant Video usually starts in HD, then rebuffers, then rebuffers again, then switches to standard definition. The standard definition usually rebuffers 3-4 times during a half hour show. Now both of these services use a maximum of ~6 megabit downstream when they are streaming at their highest quality. The video streaming problems aren't isolated to these two services but they are the ones which I use on a regular basis. (read: most infuriating) The reason that I can't watch streaming video is simple. Cox is using aggressive traffic shaping on my account. Cox ran a new line to our home in August so line quality isn't an issue. Our modem is 8 channel and the recommended model. My connection is hard wired from a gigabit router which is setup correctly. Now if I tunnel my traffic through a VPN which disguises my traffic as well then these services run fantastically. I don't get close to my 25 megabit and I get to enjoy streaming video again at the highest quality settings. Cox is forcing me to pay $150 a year to disguise my traffic in order to use ~1/5 of the speed a pay for reliably. I urge you all to get involved with the EFF because I'm surely not the only one or the last person that this has happened to. Things like this should be illegal.

Problem with Webmail?

Im seeing some reports across a couple forums of a issue with signing into webmail and/or clients, possibly related to some passwords being reset by Cox. Mostly effecting the passwords for primary usernames needing to be reset. Anyone having a simular problem? Got partial confirmation from a Cox employee. It is common for customers that either use weak passwords or the same passwords on multiple sites to have problems with their passwords being compromised and their accounts accessed without authorization. A small number of accounts were identified yesterday as having suspicious activity and passwords were reset out of caution. The threads you provided indeed would be examples of symptoms you might see if this happens to your email account. -Chris Cox Support Forums Moderator http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/4072.aspx

[AZ] Possible Changes in Data Usage Reporting

$

Does anyone know if there has been a change in the way Data Usage is reported for COX in the Chandler AZ Area by reviewing the Data Usage Meter they provide? Here is my dilemma. I have lived at our address since April of Last year. I do have 7 computers in my home for my family, kids and one is my main Media Center PC. I also a Windows Server System Administrator with about 18 years in the IT field so i'm not a non-technical user and I am not using the standard ID10T login account :) Also I have cut the cable right after I moved in also so technically in the last 10 months nothing has really changed in my infrastructure aside from the addition of a ROKU 1 for Christmas and the only services I get from Cox are the internet package with the 250 gig / month cap. So since April until around January 6 and on My daily access seemed to have jumped up by a HUGE amount. Before for each month I was averaging around 150 to 200 gig a month and never exceeded my bandwidth. Now for December and January I have more then doubled my usage according to the Data Usage meter. December was just over 500 gig a month and January so far is at 493 gig. I do have a wireless network and all devices connected are restricted by MAC address. so no one gets on to my wireless unless I add their MAC address. I have also installed BitMeter OS on all my windows machines to keep track of my kids data usages and I have been checking the meter daily. I have been shutting down machines for a day at a time and checking the numbers the next day and cant locate what's going on. I was finally discussing this with other people at work and someone else in gilbert stated he had received the same notice for the first time for his home also in December. His said he has exceeded his monthly bandwidth by 300 gig also. So now im wondering if some firmware or new hardware was implemented that may be using different calculations? So now wondering if there is any useful info I can get at from the modem diagnostics page or can I get access to the same counters COX is deriving this info from. Also is anyone familiar with consumer level wireless routers with built in switches that could also calculate / monitor per port usage statistics so I could at least narrow it down to the proper edge switches where the most bandwidth is coming from.

[CA] Cisco DPQ3212 Modem setup help

I bought one of these that I believe is new at a second hand store. Has box, and all orig cords with it. I tried installing it with the cd but it wouldnt install drivers. I google searched and im sort of getting an idea it wont work with windows 7. (64bit) I got all green lights except the link light which was orange. I was also trying to use a dlink dir845 router with it. Trying to get faster speeds and avoid the 7 monthly rental fee from cox. So I could use a little help finding out if its even useable. I figure cox will probably be useless to call. lol

[NV] Anybody else notice the rate increase??

The wife and I are on limited incomes (aint we ALL!!), and a couple of months ago, I realized wife had signed up for HBO and found we never watched it. So I call up Cox and have it removed, reducing our bill from ~$159/mo to ~$142, Well today, when I went to pay my bill online, I noticed it was back to $159. Seems they slipped a total of a $16 increase in between preferred internet and advance digital tv. I'm getting DAMN close to taking the hit on internet and going to DSL and DirectTV (wife won't let me kill cable or satellite tv altogether).. I searched the DSLR Cox forum and didn't see any comments on THIS price increase, so I wonder how many people don't pay any attention to their bill, and simply pay it.. No flippin' reason except for "WE CAN", and pleasing their stockholders...

Downgrading from Essential to Economy - Thwarted!

I'm aggravated! I called Cox to downgrade my TV service from Essential to Economy. I was told that I had to go under contract and use a cable box for each TV. No way I'm doing that. I was not asking to get a promo rate, just the regular rate. I have been free of a contract for years - not looking to be under another. I don't understand why I need a cable box for Economy when I did not need one for Essential. Cox makes it difficult to downgrade service, but very easy to upgrade.
