cable issue has me stumped

$

I have one I hope someone can answer. Originally had no modem after watching TV last night cable went out TV popped back on and never got the modem back up. Checked dbmv at 6.00 pre and post Ber at 1.00 within specs. Checked wall plate fitting and replaced connector. Still no modem lock. Swapped modem still no lock. Called provider to verify provisioning. Ok. Toned wire straight to outside 4 way splitter on 3.5 dbmv leg to inside TV outlet at modem. Replaced both splitters still no modem. Ran new drop tap values at 13.5 dbmv no other bad readings. Replaced with second modem. Still no modem lock. If I remove one splitter of the two way or 4 way I can connect online. Dbmv has to be above 7.00+ to connect to Cisco modem. Never seen it before. Can someone explain? All equipment is from cox communications. I'm also scte certified.

Some time ago, I seem to remember Cox had the broadcast channels available in standard definition digital in addition to the analog and HD. Is the SD Dig still available?

[ALL] Extreme primetime slowdown - Northern RI

I'm in Northern RI, and lately my Cox HSI has been slowing to a crawl during prime-time hours, especially on weekends. Slowdown starts to occur around 7-11 PM EST, and usually goes back to full speed a little after midnight. It's their preferred 25/5 plan, but prime-time on a Friday night, I can only manage around 8-12 mbit/s, and maybe 10-15 during a week day. It's especially noticeable with Steam, where a download will slow down to around 800 KB/s - 1MB/s. During this period general Internet use will slow as well. If I run a speedtest with Steam going, I'll be lucky to get 500 kbit/s on it - so the connection is being saturated. I've verified this with multiple computers, as well as connecting directly to the modem via ethernet. Modem is a Motorola SB5101 connected to a Linksys WRT150N with DD-WRT. Power-levels during the slowdown are: DL : 10.4 dBmV, 37.2dB SNR UL : 43.7 dBmV

[AZ] Flex Watch Channel List?

$

So, I'm considering cancelling Directv and CenturyLink 7Mbps DSL and getting instead Cox Flex Watch which has 25Mbps internet and 10 TV channels including HBO and Starz for a total 12-month-guaranteed price @59.99 month. There is no complete channel list on the cox website of the precise 10 channels on the Flex Watch plan specifically. Does anyone have Flex Watch in AZ and is able to tell me exactly which TV channels are included? Are they all HD? Is HD equipment included in the price?

[FL] Multiple modems

I used to work for a cable company years ago and they allowed multiple modems and there were no caps. Most companies seem to have caps and limits on everything now though. I have my own rants on data caps but I'm wondering if Cox allows multiple modems. I was happy with the preferred service speeds but I kept going over the cap. I upgraded to the premium but still go over sometimes. I never get the premium speeds anyways so I would prefer to have two modems of a lower speed but have their caps combined since I can do load balancing. Does cox allow that or do they say the cap is for your entire property or something?

[AZ] Ultimate Tier - 10mbs downloads

After experiencing 100mbps downloads (and loving it) for the past 4 months or so, a few days ago my average has been about 10mbps. Trouble shooting steps taken: - rebooted modem\router - moved to 2nd nic in computer - tested directly without router - used different cables - tried multiple dns servers - contacted cox support, they advised all signals are at good levels - Trace to gateway is sub 15ms and no packet loss Notables: - Uploads are twice as advertised speeds, sometimes get 40mbps - Downloads are between 10mbps and 12mbps on average - This has been consistent for several days If upload is fast, it doesn't seem logical to me that downloads would be affected by anything on my equipment, I could be wrong though, just seems logical. Cox support wants to schedule a tech to come to my house, is there any Tier IV network engineering at Cox that can trouble shoot throttling, routing issues or any of the such before I have to wait a week and waste my and the techs time with them coming out here to tell me nothing is wrong with my equipment? Any assistance would be much appreciated Details of setup: Cable Modem - SB6180 Router - Netgear N600 Cox Speed Tier - Ultimate - 150mbps down 20mbps up Signal levels: Downstream: Frequency - 849000000Hz, Signal to Ratio 40.4 dB, Power Level -1.2 dBmV Upstream: Channel ID 3, Frequency - 3610000 hz, Power 39.5 Splitters: None Speed tests: Test 1 [att=1] Test 2 Ookla [att=2] No tweaks Connection - wired Bypassed router - Yes, same results No other services with Cox

[CATV] Just switched to 6 Tuner, looking for splitter advice

$

Long story short, my TiVo Premiere kept giving me trouble. I can't justify the expense of buying at least one more TiVo Premiere to start doing Multi Room Streaming and without the reassurance that I was going to fix the problems I was having with some SDV channels and the Tuning Adapters. So after a tech visit that fixed one problem and caused many others, I called and was put in touch with the Loyalty Department. They had an offer I couldn't turn down right now to add Contour with a 6 Tuner DVR and 2 HD Receivers. The same tech did the second visit, and while an incredibly nice guy, not entirely sure I agree with what he did with the cabling. He did manage to get all of the equipment working, but he made a complete mess of the coaxial part of my structured enclosure. Including a 4-way power amp, there were 4 splitters between the DEMARC and the DVR. The last splitter was only connected to the DVR with the other end empty. I'm going to guess the signal ended up too hot so he had to try to bring it back down...shrug. At one time he did get an 8-way power amp out and then took it all back out to. Anyway I ripped it all out and got a temporary solution working without the amp but it's just the 4 devices. For reference, my incoming power level is roughly 7dBmV at the DEMARC cable in the closest. My ideal situation includes at a minimum having the Master, Living Room, Study (Cable Modem), 2 Spare Bedrooms, and a Bonus Room all with the ability to plug in a TV or STB with the simplest splitting solution as possible. I honestly won't mind 1 or 2 splitters that are easy to Velcro back into the enclosure but it was getting pretty ridiculous the way it was. There was no easy way I was going to be able to tidy it up enough. Plus some of the interconnect cables were having to bend way out of spec. I do have a second coax at the same wall plate in the living room but I'm thinking it may end up being used for something else like in-attic antenna for OTA/FM, along with doing another this way to use in the bonus room but that's outside the scope of this. If an 8-way splitter with or without an amp is the best solution then I could add a drop above the fireplace I believe and maybe out in the garage even though those aren't locations that I'd personally use...garage sports watching seems to be incredibly popular in my neighborhood...otherwise maybe I can live with just a 6-way splitter?

Webmail Weirdness

I've recently run into problem's trying to access the enhanced version of Cox webmail. My browser (IE) just hangs up with a message "waiting for idm.west.cox.net" If I switch over to the classic version, it loads right away. What's really strange, is that after entering and exiting the classic version, if I again try to enter the enhanced version, it works consistently until I close my browser! When I restart the browser, it's back to the hung up condition trying to access the enhanced version. I guess I could switch to the classic version but it appears to have problems in message composition with a Java error message that it wont load because of security issues. This is due to new security features added to Java which can be circumvented by changing the Java security settings or adding the web mail as a trusted site. But even after doing that, I got error messages about apps failing to load. I get the impression that Cox isn't paying a whole lot of attention to webmail and would be happy if everyone moved to gmail or Yahoo. This is all rather ironic since Cox's direct predecessor, @Home, went under, in part, because of persistent email problems. I guess to be fair, those problems were with SMTP/POP email and web mail was nonexistent then. However, I digress. If anybody out there has the foggiest about what's going on and how to fix it, I would appreciate hearing it.

[CATV] record 6/contour package

Upgraded today. Free install that went well. Feeling my way around the new gui of contour after the ole passport echo. Nice to be able to record more than 2 at a time and not be worried about HDD space. Question: I see the 100% in the top right corner. Is this the remaining HDD space? I wonder because I've recorded a few shows now and it still says 100? If this isn't HDD space, how do you access this info?

[FL] Tried to upgrade SB6180 firmware, Cox says not possible?

I spoke to Tier 2 support at COX trying to get the SB6180 firmware updated as I am still stuck at: SB6180-3.2.1.0-GA-00-252-NOSH And I have been having sporadic speed issues so it was suggested by one technician to update the firmware. But when I called the support number and was transferred to Tier 2 they stated that Cox HSI NEVER updates firmware and there was no way to "PUSH" an update to a modem. I am just curious if this is true, and if so, how do I go about updating my firmware? From what I understand the latest version is significantly newer and makes many performance and stability improvements. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

[ALL] Cox account has the wrong equipment listed?

Okay. A couple things here. I called a few days ago to cancel my service with cox and I requested it be shut off the 29th, which was yesterday and I still have cable and Internet which has me confused. And also, my account says I have TV receiver Motorola CMX320M but I actually have DCX3200M. Wondering if this will be an issue when I take the equipment back.

Five Dollar per month Internet upgrade promotion

As subject says, Cox is currently running this promotion; good for 6 months of a upgrade to the next tier for 5.00 per month. I currently have the Premium package, and service is fine. Thought I would try Ultimate for 6 months, then drop back if I really didn't notice a difference. Ordered it online today, but speeds never increased. I did a chat session with Cox support and was notified that a tech would have to come to activate Ultimate. Is this mandatory? Can someone be upgraded (assuming they have the proper modem) to the Ultimate package without a tech visit? Thanks everyone.

[CATV] Can you pressure Cox to remove copy-once flagging?

$

All the channels including non-premiums are flagged, basically anything that I could get back in my QAM days is open, everything else dead. I feel like I wasted 100 bucks on my CableCARD HDHomeRun because the plan was to integrate this into my current system for watching QAM with my old plain HDHR. The copy-once ruins that for the extra channels, plus I cannot stream any of those to my Android using InstaTV either. Does Cox respond to de-flag if you ask? -- Matt...
