[AZ] Cisco DPQ3212 - battery?

I had a 2nd phone line installed yesterday (primary is through an NIU) and the installer put in a new outlet and set up a Cisco DPQ3212. After a few hiccups which involved him not really knowing what he was supposed to be doing, to disconnecting our main phone line for 30 minutes while trying to get the 2nd working, he was finally finished. After he left I went to put stuff where I wanted. As I picked up the MTA, I thought it was kind of light for having an 8 hour backup battery. Then I noticed the door was open and there was no battery installed. Not to mention it simply shut off when I unplugged it. Was I supposed to get a battery for this thing? Also, before he even came to the door he was messing around at the main box (is it still called a demarc in the cable world?) and ended up hooking up all 3 outlets. I only use 2 (one to the cable modem and DVR, the other to the new MTA), so there's a 3-way splitter out there. I've disconnected the 3rd outlet, and would like to replace the splitter. Current levels on my new SB6180 are 40.3 SNR, -5.8 dBmV downstream and 40.2 dBmV upstream. I am going to call later this morning, but does anyone think it will be possible to go to the local Solutions store and get a splitter (and possibly MTA battery)?
