Currently have Cox Internet (Premier 200) and Phone, with a Cisco DPQ3212 modem.
Tired to upgrade to Internet (to Gigablast) and additional Phone service/features. Online said the order couldn't be completed, that I have to call them.
Called, and they said I have to buy a modem (and to check the Cox-approved list) or I could rent their Panoramic Modem for $10.99 per month. They suggested going to Best Buy to buy a modem if I didn't want to rent.
I'm not getting their panoramic wifi, so I don't need that modem rental. Prefer to buy rather than rent. On the Cox-approved list, the Arris TM3402 is the only Gigablast capable one with phone capability.
However, I cannot find the Arris TM3402 for sale anywhere! I think the Arris TM3402 would meet my needs, but seems unavailable.
Any advice? Places to find/buy the Arris TM3402? Other options?
Thanks!

Need Guidance -- CGM4141 vs Moto MB8600 + TP-Link AX6000 vs ???
We recently upgraded to Gigablast internet service, and like many others find ourselves needing a new modem & router capable of supporting the faster speeds.
As a TEMPORARY fix, I agreed to letting them send me what they call a "PW6" modem/router combo. Rent is $11/mo and I can purchase outright for $189 per the rep. It arrived last night. It appears to be a Technicolor CGM4141COX per the sticker on the back.
https://www.cox.com/residential/support/technicolor-cgm4141.html
My thoughts were simple, I can take the month and get everything hooked up and tested on my network. Is there anything I should know or tweak in the settings to make my experience better? Also, what is the overall community thought/review of this particular device? One issue I see right off the bat is only two wired ports. That's weak. So at the least I will need to add a capable switch if we decide to keep.
I don't plan on renting. I will purchase, and the price is attractive if it does what they say. Alternatively I was looking at combining these two separate units, but the price is quite a bit more.
Motorola MB8600 @ $150 (currently out of stock, so prices are whack)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0723599RQ
TP-Link AX600 @ $300
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L56SN8M
Price is just one factor. But my gut tells me for this sort of price range I should be getting more of a "prosumer" type device to handle my needs. I mostly care about performance and throughput. Also, I want the ability to implement some decent parental controls in the router software without driving myself bonkers managing them.
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. Just I know change is needed, and I'm okay with spending some money to get the right equipment. I just need a little guidance. Been a bit since I fiddled with this. Appreciate the guidance.

Any way to disable the Cox Browser alerts that are injected?
Are there any way to disable the data usage warnings that are injected into unsecured pages to inform me about being at 85% of my data usage? I receive the emails just fine and I'm aware of my usage, but would prefer Cox not inject warnings into web pages... can't seem to find an opt out for this anywhere.

Use modem tied to a different acocunt
Hi there - I have a bit of a weird situation. We have a home that we have Cox high speed internet service already. We just finished building a new house. The Cox team should be pulling the new coax sometime today. Then we should be getting the modem from them in the next 2-3 days.
What I was wondering is since i have an account that has an active modem, would i just be able to move it over to the new house temporarily even though it is a different address? I am not officially moving or cancelling the original account. We are keeping internet in both locations.
Thanks!

[FL] Just had to demand for an aggressive technician to leave.
I scheduled an appointment to have another cable outlet ran. No issue, $60 fee or something I was told by customer service. The cable technician arrives and I show him where and why I want another line ran to this room. I want the TV and Modem on two separate cable runs to avoid using a splitter. That's all I wanted, plain and simple. However, instead, he became aggressive asking why and that it will make no difference and blah blah blah. I firmly told him "Look, I don't want to get into a debate with you. I want my modem and TV to be on separate runs, plain and simple. We were told we could have another cable ran by customer service for a fee, that's all we want." He quickly raised his voice at me and became more aggressive and started walking out of the room cursing and being verbally abusive while saying "Fine, I'll run you a **** cable!". I raised my voice and firmly told him to leave. He refused. This time I firmly said to get off our property. He started yelling at me "Are you threatening me?!" I calmly said "I'm not threatening you. I'm telling you to get off our property". He insisted that I was threatening him and that if I said another word that he was going to call the police. By this point, he's standing outside our front door and as soon as he said that, I closed and locked the door. He made a phone call and left.
I'm speechless and in shock... All he had to do was run a 2nd cable to this room, which we were paying for him to do, but instead he gets argumentative and aggressive and that's not someone I feel safe being around, let alone drilling holes in the house.
I honestly cannot believe this just happened. If a Cox Technician reads this, can you please let me know how I can file a legal complaint against this technician? I felt very unsafe around him.

How to check for FTTH
Hi guys, my sister is moving near me in Northern Virginia. I’m trying to get them good reliable internet and luckily this whole county of Fairfax has fiber.
Unfortunately, it’s fake FiOS at 30mb/s Max with vDSL, I had the same in my old apartment and it was utter garbage.
While i figure this out and call Verizon, I was wondering if you guys knew if there was a way to check for Cox FTTH addresses? I’m actually kinda shocked that Cox is even doing FTTH but hey, as long as it isn’t shitty coax cable... I also have Cox in my condo but have gigabit FiOS as my preferred choice but wondering how I can check here too, so I can load balance ;)

Cox Communication Channels Are Rotten
The ability to communicate with Cox is so bad I have describe it as totally sucks. Using telephone for me is not doable as I am extremely hard of hearing. Call center staff are usually in barn like settings using 99cent headsets and are impossible for me to understand. There was a time in the past when I could reach people by chat or via email. It now appears that Cox in its corporate greediness has reduced the number of "competent" employees, shut down most email links and tries to foist us off on their cutesy automated crap in the hopes that we will go away. Today I tried to reach a human via chat and after many minutes gave it up. I have two problems:
First, my Gigablast hardly ever delivers speeds down above 300. Yes, I have the right hardware and am using ethernet connections. I have feeling that the local nodes are overloaded due to people working from home or starting school. However, I have feeling that their infrastructure is crumbling. Frequently, I find that I loose internet connection around 12:30AM for various lengths of time.
Second problem is that every night somewhere between 9PM and 11PM, there will be a complete loss of video signal for about 30 seconds.
I have been a Cox customer since they arrived in the Phoenix area. I have lived through very bad service, inept installations, incompetent sub-contractors and poorly designed infrastructure. I pay Cox a lot of money each month for TV, internet and telephone; however I am about ready to ditch them for CenturyLink and Dish if they ever pull FTTH.
So F**k you Cox, and now I feel better!! :D

[CA] Netgear CM1200 randomly loses downstream sync
Not sure what's happening here - but a couple times the past month, my Netgear CM1200 will randomly start to flash the downstream indicator, and my internet will go down entirely. After waiting 10 minutes or so, it doesn't fix itself - leading me to have to hard power cycle (or login to their admin page and reboot) - and then things start working correctly again. Checking the modem's status page (which hilariously says status: GOOD) and the event logs doesn't shed any light to me on what could be going on.
I have attached the status page from when it was down. Also posted the entire logs (after I rebooted via admin) - it shows all logs before and after. You can see the events from today (August 24th).
Any ideas would be appreciated. I would contact Cox, but my last few interactions with them have been frustrating from a technical standpoint.
Thanks.

[AZ] Node over-saturation in Chandler
I am sharing my recent experience dealing with the Cox node saturation issue in my neighborhood.
Status tracking:
03/21/20: initial packet loss issue reported to Cox CSR. Also started posting on Cox Internet forum with PingPlotter trace graph showing issue started from Hop2. During the week of 3/16~3/21, multiple service outages (unplanned) experienced.
Replaced Arris SB6180 (which is capable to handle my 150/10 plan) with Motorola MB8600 (Gigablast approved). No improvement. Still seeing significant packet loss.
03/22/20: Cox Contractor on-site. Measured Tx/Rx signal quality from tube (tap), Cox cable box, and coax outlet in my room where the cable modem is connected to. The tech admitted that the signal is already weak at tube and there is not much he can do to fix it. He added MOCA filter in the cable box and replaced the coax connector too; no improvement.
03/23/20: emailed cox.help with 24hr PingPlotter trace showing ~10% packet loss.
03/24/20: received email response from Cox CSR
"There is currently maintenance occurring in your area so we won't be able to do any testing right now."
During the week of 03/22~03/28, experiencing service outages on a daily basis.
3/28/20: updated in both Cox CSR and Cox Internet forum with continued packet loss issue (7day PingPlotter trace attached).
KevinM2, Cox internet forum moderator, responded 03/29 asking to reach out on Twitter, FB or cox.help @ Cox.net (which I did already on cox.help email). I went ahead and reached out to Twitter. Twitter CSR apologized for the situation and offered credits for the inconvenience. Again stated
"There is currently maintenance occurring in your area so we won't be able to do any testing right now.". When pressed for the schedule of node split, was given the typical answer
"As far as the upgrade does, there are multiple factors involved in the planning and scheduling of this type of work and we are unable to effect any change to the schedule."
03/28/20 FCC informal complaint filed with 7-day PingPlotter traced attached; clearly indicating Hop2 ISP node being the problem.
03/31/20 received a call from Cox Executive Office responding to FCC compliant. During the call he agreed to node over-saturation issue (500+ people on the node while typically should only have 200~300). Promised to get back to me on the infrastructure upgrade schedule. Btw, it was not clear the infrastructure upgrade is a node split or fiber optical upgrade to the tube.

[CA] slight warning about being an unaware cox wifi hotspot
So after I resumed my subscription with Cox and didn't quite have the money to invest in my own modem and considering the speeds/consistency of the 4140 is fine for my purposes for whatever reason (not really using wifi much so it seems fine just lined out) one day I realized there was a 'cox wifi hotspot'.
I live in a house in a suburban area where I know every other wifi access point within range since I actively avoid the bands they're on, as I'm the only one that cares so they're all just on 2 or 4 or whatever the lowest for 5ghz is (most don't realize they even have 5ghz around here that would x5 their speed)
since the hotspot was nearby I knew it was either my modem or my relative's who are on the same address but not the same line. they don't have gigabit though, and it only took unplugging mine to see the hotspot disappear.
okay.. so they turned on my hotspot without so much as dinner or a warning email that they were activating this service but I guess I agreed to it in the ToS. I will now show why this is both deceptive and likely purposeful since the option to turn it off entirely is actually frustratingly in the most ridiculous place they could put it.
[att=1]
erm... my wifi?
[att=2]
no? it's not under wifi preferences or any of those. if it's related to the router surely it should be somewhere here. I guess I'll just go to the help and see if the FAQ has anything.
[att=3]
hey there we go that leads her-
https://www.cox.com/residential/support/cox-wifi-service.html
[att=4]
oh.
In fact, you have to go back to your main account, go to your profile, not your modem or wifi settings, go to privacy, then it's at the very bottom.
[att=5]
It is on by default and, rather than being worried about using a hotspot and compromising security, I am far more concerned with the use of my network on empty promises like "the modem uses different bandwidth to handle it so it doesn't affect you!"
which just means "we're lying or locking performance from you that this modem clearly didn't have two years ago and doesn't have now :)"
Much like the shoddy advanced security and actually having McAfee unironically, this is absurd and I strongly suggest anyone who might be victim to this (renting out a panoramic modem most likely, but I wouldn't put it past them to do it to anyone they can to support their shoddy hotspot network) to check and make sure. I would really like to invest in a network setup but I would rather upgrade other things in the short term, but this is the sort of nonsense I shouldn't have to worry about without a notification at least, injected into my browser to tell me they're hijacking my modem.
Just a little warning. I wouldn't have noticed it if I didn't care about wifi at the time.
What's even more ridiculous is bridge mode does not disable it, so it really is using some part of the modem's firmware you can't get access to. I'm buying my own stuff asap, this is honestly the worst thing I've seen Cox do, and I was really happy with the lack of data cap briefly, which is sad to say.

Self Install Info?
So I have to do my own install since Cox won't come in a house in Nevada right now. My house is a new build and I have no splitter at the moment. I'm guessing that I will need a two-way 8-port splitter MOCA compatible along with a two-way 2-port to separate the drop, one to the internet modem and one to the 8-port. Does this sound correct?
Any recommendations on what ones to get? Should I get powered or not?
EDIT: Oh and I won't forget the terminators for the unused ports.

What Speeds Are You Getting Using Gigablast + AC Router?
Quick back story. I recently upgraded from Cox's 300mb plan to their 1gb plan. I'm still decided on the right cable modem & router setup for our situation, but as a temporary solution I am running the Technicolor CGM4141 (PW6) router. Worst case scenario I blow $11 for the month and provide some data to compare against whatever final components I do decide on for the long term.
For those that may be unaware, this PW6 router does NOT include Wifi 6 (802.11ax). Below is what is offered:
2.4ghz = 802.11 g & n @ 20 & 40mhz
5ghz = 802.11 a, n & ac @ 20, 40 or 80mhz
The default setting has the router auto selecting the best channel, with g/n and a/n/ac enabled using 40mhz and 80mhz as default. You can individually select channels and also choose variations of the speed standards (a, g, n, ac, etc).
Also, the PW6 wants you to keep the SSID's the same for both the 2.4 and 5ghz networks. I personally don't like this. In early testing I was getting some funky results and looking further into the matter I saw where my AX client had slipped onto the 2.4 network and was pulling 100mb speeds. Plus, I like manually steering certain devices to different networks. For instance things like printers, Google Home and several kid devices I keep on the slower 2.4 network. I keep our gaming devices, main media streaming and work computers on the 5ghz network.
I mention all this to preface how I am setting up my stuff for testing. I did create two separate SSID's and I'm doing all my testing while connected to the 5ghz network. I am running the default selection 802.11 a/n/ac @ 80mhz and letting it auto select my channels.
Below are samples of test results I've gotten recently:
1. HP Spectre w/ Intel AX200 (2x2) card, supporting 160mhz = 646, 653 & 641
2. Galaxy S9+ w/ AC card = 375, 356, 400, 370, 392 & 380
I have more results on the S9 because that was my initial guinea pig after hooking up last night. On the 300mb plan I was previously pulling in the 270-300 range with a few hits up to 320 occasionally. On the S9, range varies from about 10-20'. The Spectre I am using at my home office that is right at 20' away from the PW6.
I have yet to test one of my laptops with an ETHERNET cable. 3 of the 4 don't have the option so an accessory would be needed. The oldest unit does and I will test that later. The Cox rep said they were pulling around 1150 down & 40+ on the uploaded (940/35 is "guaranteed"). The rep told me those numbers over the phone so I assume she was running from the Cox facility in the absolute best case scenario.
Do these numbers seem on par or weak for the conditions listed? While I do like the AX speeds, I can't help but think what an AX router would give me.
**NOT RELATED TO SPEED TEST, BUT A GOOD FYI**
One thing I think is worth mentioning is you need to log into the router & change the DEFAULT user & passwords. If you didn't change your default LAN address, you will navigate to 192.168.0.1 and login using default settings. In my case, I changed the LAN address so I navigate to 10.x.x.1 and do the same. I can imagine lots of people don't know to do this, or forgets but it's a major security vulnerability IMO which is why I'm mentioning it.

Extremely poor signal levels, Northern RI
So I've posted about this issue before. Some of you suggested that it was just my old SB6182 that was dying. So, I just got an SB6183 setup - and my signal levels are still garbage and are still getting lower and lower. I was starting to get a lot of uncorrectable errors on the SB6182 before I replaced it, and my SB6183 that's only been operating for a few minutes is already seeing corrected errors. Nothing has changed cable-wise in the house, and I checked that the accessible connections are tight.
Cox chat rep said they can't help me because it's a "3rd party modem".

[NV] Fast.com being throttled?
I noticed that in the past week, my speedtests via Cox DOCSIS 3.1 connection is being throttled to 400 megabit on fast.com. Previously I could easily hit 800+ mbps on fast.com. This happened after two nights of extreme packet loss of 20% during evening hours. Cox recently had split my node up so I was seeing nice speeds day or night.
I tested fast.com via COX GPON fiber at a friend's house across town and he is able to get full 900+ megabit up/down.
A friend in San Diego also tested his Cox line and saw his max out at 400 megabit to fast.com.
Other speedtest sites such as dslreports.com, speedtest.net (Switch Las Vegas server), and cloudflare's speed test show 800+ megabit speeds for me still.
I know 400 megabit will be fine and dandy to watch Netflix, but seems odd that its being throttled suddenly on the DOCSIS network and not on the GPON network.

Gigablast during Covid - What are you seeing?
I just mentioned something about this in another post and felt that it might deserve a topic of its own so we can compare and contrast various parts of the area to see how the overall network is responding for different people.
In Las Vegas (SW side of the valley), I have been lucky to see anything above 400mbps now for months. At this very moment, I am getting just over 160mbps. Kind of stings since I have been paying for Gigablast this whole time. Talking to Cox about it and they just tell you that everyone is experiencing this during the outbreak since everyone is at home. I sort of understand the situation, but why are we still paying for something we haven't been given for months? It's ok for us to lose something, but not ok for the price to reflect this? I will be investigating further with Cox to see what the heck is going on and how it can be resolved, but I wondered how wide this reaches.
(and of course, everything has been properly troubleshooted many times over this time, taking all of your typical steps to diagnosing things...even Cox admits it is them)
