[Modem] TM3402 modem received invalid config file

Hello everyone. I got this problem recently and wanted to know if I should go for a swap for a new modem or is it something else. Maybe a Cox tech can help me to figure out the solution. Recently, I upgraded my internet from the grandfather premiere package to Gigablast. Initially, I did not get the acceptable Gigablast speed but figured out later that was due to my router QoS setting. Afterward, everything worked as expected. However, for about 3-4 days ago, I noticed a pattern with the modem. At night, around the time-frame of 12 A.M to 6 A.M (which I found out that is the Cox maintenance window), my modem received some kinds of config update and that caused the modem disconnected the internet. When I woke up in the morning, the internet gone but the light the modem was still indicated that it was connected and when I check the status in my router, it could not receive correct DHCP settings. Here are the modem info: Hardware Information System: ARRIS DOCSIS 3.1 / PacketCable 2.0 Touchstone Telephony Modem HW_REV: 7 VENDOR: ARRIS Group, Inc. BOOTR: 2.2.8.491938 SW_REV: 11.01.057.5 MODEL: TM3402A Firmware Build and Revisions Firmware Name: TS11.01.057.5_102017_70.PC20.03 Firmware Build Time: Fri Oct 20 17:06:56 EDT 2017 Yesterday, during that period, I checked to see if there was any outage or maintenance notice within my area but so far there was none. Before upgrading to Gigablast, I rarely encountered this issue unless there was actually an outage (typically around 2-3 A.M instead). Unplug the power and restart the modem immediately solved the problem but still this is annoying to do every morning. I checked online to see if people encountered this similar issue and I found that recently some people got internet disconnected around the time-frame that I observed. So is this something going on with Cox at the moment due to the constraint on the system or something with my modem or is it something with my cable lines? During the Gigabast upgrade process, a tech came out to drop other equipment and to verify the line. At the time, he said there are some fluctuations and RF leak with my house wiring and it might cause some speed issue. I had not notice any degradation before the upgrade but not sure about this time. Speed testing currently indicates around 800 Mbps down / ~17-27 Mbps up. If need, I can also provide the power levels, but based on the guideline in here, my power levels and SNRs are within the recommended/acceptable ranges. In addition, I noticed that there was some new firmware for this particular modem but I have not been able to get it. Talked to support and they have no clue at all. Cannot access advanced section due the password of the day issue. And then there is the certificate invalid when accessing 192.168.100.1 (just have to bypass from the browser). I am thinking of exchange the modem for another but probably going to get a refurbished one, maybe that could fix the issue. This modem was also a replacement when I got the issue with telephone line not working properly.

I just noticed on my account in now shows the Preferred 150 with an upload speed of 5 instead of 10. Also my speed tests are now showing around 145/5, so did they change it and not tell anyone?

[AZ] Gigablast Intermittent Outbound Packetloss When Temperatures Rise

Problem Statement: Consistent outbound packetloss in the area of 0.6%-2%. Occasionally spiking at peak hours to 12-25%. Occasional disconnections and interruptions of service. Duration of issue: Consistently 3+ summers. Desired Outcome: More than anything, I'm just looking for a sanity check. I've been dealing with this every summer for a while now, so this is not exclusively a COVID-19 burdened network issue. Though, it could certainly contribute. Over the last 3 or so years, it seems to correlate more closely to breaking triple didgets. If this is situation nominal, I'm fine with that. If I need to try swapping out my modem, I'll give it a go. Hardware: Modem - CM1000 HW Version: 2.02 FW : V5.01.04 (various over the years, though) Router - Various. Over the years, I've used a Netgear XR500, an ASUS AC3100, and a Ubiquiti Edge Router X. The issue exists when connecting directly to the modem as well. Background: Last summer I had grown frustrated, and signed up for the inside wiring plan. Over a 3 month period, I must have had the tech out 20 times. He kept insisting it was my CM1000 modem, and that they are terrible modems. I purchased (briefly) a DOCSIS 3.1 compliant surfboard (I forget which... it was likely the SB8200) to test his theory. I know my CM1000 tends to heat up quickly, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is problematic. However, I still received the same outbound packet loss, so I returned it after a few days. I went back and forth with the technician, who replaced wiring and fitting inside the house. It definitely seemed to improve my time to connect, and my signal, but did little to fix my packet loss issues. Using pathping and pingplotter, I can regularly show the packetloss. It also seems to be around a specific IP/node inside of the cox network. However, they indicated that they only trust their tools, and their tools show 0% packet loss from my house. That being said, I kept calling in the hopes that they could catch this intermittent issue. They came out to monitor from the street for a day or so, and saw some of the packet loss. While discussing with that tech, I asked if there had been any tickets in the area. He looked, and sure enough, there was a major repair order the next street over. Packrats had gotten in and chewed components, allowing noise into the system. About a week after the repair ticket was closed, my packet loss was resolved. I've now not had an issue for the last 9 months. Until, that is, a few weeks ago. Once the weather started breaking 100, my VPN connection for started dropping throughout the day. 10am-noon seems really consistent, then again later in the evenings. I haven't re-engaged with Cox again, nor have I run extensive ping plots, or path pings. It feels like the same issue again for sure, and happens across my devices both wired and wireless. Before I start the process of going crazy with my own diagnostics, 1. Should I try a new modem again? It certainly doesn't hurt to have a backup should anything happen. Especially since all of us at my company have been pushed full time remote. 2. Any recommendations for DOCSIS 3.1 modems? I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the CM8200, and the SB8200 (re-branding?), or if the CM8600 offers anything significant. SurfBoard modems had been good to me for a long time, but I liked that I could add and change a password for the CM1000 that I have. 3. Alternately, should I limp along until DOCSIS 4.0 modems come out? I hear rumors that they may start surfacing in the next 6 months. 4. Is there a diagnostic tool that the Cox technicians will accept from consumers / home users? 5. If I do re-engage with Cox, is there anything specific I should try to point the tech to in order to help? Providing them the IP primary source of the packetloss didn't seem to impress. Do they have the ability to check node congestion, heat, errors, noise, etc.? I'm not sure what their diagnostic toolbox looks like, exactly. Gigablast firmware issues SB8200?

I'll preface this post by saying I'm a CCIE in R&S... I have gigablast....for the last month i've been getting 300-350mbps download speeds. Tier 1 said it was caused by my modem. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and bought a new SB8200. Provisioned the new modem and had my normal speeds for about 5 minutes (1.3gbps down 50mbps up). After 5 minutes my modem reset and found AB01.01.009.27_081619_183.0A.NSH was loaded. Back down to 300-350mbps. This firmware was pushed on both my hardware revision 4 and 6 sb8200. Tier 2 closed the ticket saying updated firmwares are deployed when received. I have opened a tier 3 case with Arris. anyone else seeing issues? I'm Cox in phoenix. Good morning! and happy Father's Day. Best (least heart burn) way to add new Modem to my account. - I tried to Activate using my computer, directly connected, but the Activation wizard said my new modem wasn't allowed. - Do I have to pay an activation fee? Is there a best practices way to add a new modem to my account? New Modem: Arris SB6190 Thanks, Dan Foxley

Cox doing upgrades for COVID response

Just giving the heads up. I haven’t seen anyone mention it here but Cox is apparently doing upgrades to networks in response to COVID here in northern Virginia (Fairfax County). People on the “Nextdoor” app have been complaining of fiber installations being done in the neighborhoods & nobody cleaning it up. People also complained of recent cox issues & mentioned that the reps said the area is undergoing upgrades in response to covid so I’m actually curious if they’re bringing fiber to the home or closer to the node. I myself have FiOS, one of the prerequirements when searching for my condo. But it’s bad here, I heard cox doesn’t have enough ports so they just unplug an existing user when there’s a new install. But I’m wondering what you guys think if they’re indeed doing upgrades or just swapping out nodes

[Modem] $50 Remote Service Appointment

I've attached a recent speed test using the Cox rental modem. I've had three technicians out to fix these speeds. The third tech said it was the modem I owned and charged me $50 for the visit. Today I went and got a rental modem from Cox. Still the same speeds. Customer service is now refusing to credit back the $50, even though my modem was clearly not the issue. Anyone have tips on how to get rid of this ridiculous service charge? At this point I'll deal with the slow speeds, I just don't want Cox taking money from me for a tech visit that didn't even resolve the issue.

Has any one seen 1 gig speed from DOCSIS 3.1? When I had it all I could get was 550 mbps. They claim "up to" 1gig I never saw it

When will upload ever be improved on/increased *ugh

I wonder when Cox will finally decide that they don't need to limit people so much on their upload speeds. So many people are taking advantage of streaming their game sessions and other fun things that depend on the upstream channel speed. Upstream is starting to become more of a normal thing as people check in on their home while away and all that fun stuff we have with in-home technology now. I liked the idea they had here (https://www.pocnetwork.net/technology-news/what-if-internet-service-providers-isps-let-you-balance-your-own-bandwidth-between-a-max-number/) about being able to balance your total bandwidth how you'd wish your connection to be. That would be awesome!!! And I agree with their view on servers. If I wanted to run a server for something, I'd rather use Godaddy or Bluehost or something. Not Cox. I would want something that can handle tons of traffic all at once. So how long do you think it would take for Cox (and other companies I guess) to realize this and take action?

High uncorrectables, slow speeds

Hey all, Looking for some input. I have a high amount of uncorrectables on a few channels, along with speed tests not making it to what I am paying for. Any recommendations? There are no splitters in the house, direct line to the modem about 10 ft past the cable box on the side of the house. Thanks! Jordan

[AZ] been dealing with packet loss problems for two years now...

i've been dealing with packet loss problems here in the west valley for awhile now. about two years. last year i was able to get a tech out and he said he saw no issues with my connection. said its probably my equipment. since then i've tried three different cable modems and two different routers. including direct connection. modems i've tried: Netgear CM600 (yes, the famous puma but surprisingly it did better than the CM700 for me) Netgear CM700 Arris SB6183 i'm currently using the Arris SB6183 because its been the most stable. also, i had two buy TWO 6dB attenuator's myself to hook up to the coax line to my modem to lower dB values. which I also replaced the coax running from my wall to the modem with a all solid copper coax cable for satellite in trying to see if that would help. my power level's are now between 0.5 to -3.2dBmV. prior to that they hovered around 11-15dBmV. which the cox tech said was "perfectly fine and within spec." everything i read said the opposite though. my coax line at the back of the modem was extreme hot to the teach. since adding the attenuator's myself, the line is no longer hot, and my packet loss did go down quite a bit. but i'm still suffering from it. for example, battlefield v has been very painful to play because of it. every few minutes packet loss is reported and the game stutters / freezes a bit while it tries to resync. here is an image i took just now of my sb6183 dashboard: https://i.imgur.com/Scw0Ops.jpg what concerns me is the extremely large amount of uncorrectables. this has been a staple these last two years. every channel has them, with a few channels having an insane amount of them. like channel 1 which has 41,612. the last time i rebooted my modem was two weeks ago now. the tech last year told me uncorrectables are normal and expected. but its hard to believe this many and in such a short amount of time are normal. he also said my house coax lines are "good." i'm not sure if my SNR level's are within a optimum range though. i've read recently that they should be above 35dB and i have quite a few skirting around at 34dB range. so i just ordered a new router. a Arris SB8200 and a new router. this time a Ubiquiti ER-X to replace my Netgear AC1700 V3 (I have a Asus AC68U that my friend gave to me last year running in access mode for wifi). i'm aware cox has switched over to DOCSIS 3.1 which is why I purchased the SB8200. i'm currently under the impression cox is forgoing any support for DOCSIS 3.0 and i'm hoping that will improve things. but i am curious to see what you guys think. regardless of DOCSIS 3.0 / 3.1, is what's been going on with me normal? after i get my modem in the coming day's, should i try yet again to get cox out to check things out again?

Cox Increases Data Cap to 1.25 TB

From LightReading.com: Citing increased Internet use due to coronavirus, Cox announced it will make it easier for more customers to stay within their data plans by raising data allowances across the board by 25%, to 1.25 terabytes starting this week. "Since the start of the pandemic we provided unlimited data to all customers because we did not know the impact that learn and work from home might have on our customers. After reviewing data consumption since the Coronavirus crisis, we know that nearly 90 percent of customers would not have been charged for going over their 1TB data plan," a Cox official said via email.

[OK] Consistently poor upload speeds

About 2 weeks ago started noticing issues while browsing the net and a test showed the download speed was fine but upload was at a miserable 1mbps. I attempted to diagnose the issue myself but nothing I did resolved it so I called cox and a technician eventually came out. While they where here they checked the box outside and did work in another neighbor's yard then said it was all fixed. Testing before they left showed the issue wasn't resolved and they begrudgingly came inside to diagnose the modem. After failing to get their tool to work with the modem but showing the coax had a good speed of 900mbps down 35 up he replaced the modem with what i'm guessing is a slightly newer panoramic modem. Speeds were fixed and all was well. Week later the issue begins again and I'm not sure what to do other than call cox once more and have a guy come out and do it all over again. If it were the modem whats the chances of the replacement modem having the same issue days later? Friend of mine has cox and is not too far from me at all and has no issues with his connection.

It's been four months, no change

It's been 3-4 months since I last posted here about the oversaturation problems with my node. Back in March, I was told by Cox Business that my node was scheduled to be split in July. Due to the unusable garbage that Cox service is, I got a Uverse 50/10 connection to use as a backup. While it's only DSL, the connection was stable with no spikes or packet loss and it was useable. The backup Uverse connection is currently down so I had to swap back to my Cox connection. I was actually surprised that there was no change in the quality of the service. Huge ping spikes, 20-30% packetloss intermittently throughout the day. I called Business support yesterday and they told me there was no evidence of my node being on the node split calendar, even though the node was at 95% utilization. The tech actually told me that there were no plans to split it at 95%. Crazy. I can't even imagine how this service provider is still in business. I get that COVID has caused issues with city permits, equipment ordering, etc. But how does my node go from getting split in July (back in March) to now not being on the calendar for the rest of the year? There is no evidence of it being planned for a split at all. People literally have to endure 95% utilization (probably more since they're still selling gigablast here) for 9+ months and keep paying them? I'm stuck in a contract and they have a monopoly here anyway. The only other providers here can't sell more than 50mbps and are just copper. Just blows my mind how bad service providers are in this country. I hope there comes a day when municipalities or utilities can freely offer their own fiber service to all residential areas rather than just a select few. I envy people that are able to even get AT&T Fiber. Just makes it so frustrating for me.

IPV6 on Docsis Gigablast?

Does Cox offer IPV6 with Docsis-based Gigablast service? I want to know what to expect as far as IPV6 is concerned if I transition from Classic Ultimate 300/30 to the Gigablast tier. I currently have a /56 IPV6 on my ER4. They removed my grandfathered 2TB datacap and downgraded it to 1.25 TB so there's nothing keeping me from changing my service now. The Gigablast service is identical price to the Classic Ultinate at $99, so I'm tempted to at least transition to it. Thank you.

If someone could help out....what am I missing trying to log into watchtv.cox.com The contour page starts and I'm redirected to the idm.east page to log in. I enter my user id and password and hit enter. It adds @cox.net to my user id and fails. Whitelabel Error Page This application has no explicit mapping for /error, so you are seeing this as a fallback. Sat Jul 25 04:54:16 UTC 2020 There was an unexpected error (type=Unauthorized, status=401). Unauthorized I never had a problem before when I had an actual cox email address.

Do I need to set Docsis as an option for both download & upload parameters? I was thinking it would just need to be on upload. Any other tips would be appreciated. Thank you :)

[AZ] SB8200 LAG/AX88U Cox - Buckeye

Heard lots of issues with enabling LAG on the 8200... When I enable it and use port aggregation on my ASUS AX88U I test through everything and works great for about 12 hours and then random connection drops, extremely high latency and poor throughput is exhibited until I reset modem. This is about what I have read being exhibited; being as my AX88u doesnt have even 2.5gbe to harness the extra throughput when cox gives me the over-provisioning (Im out in Buckeye on gigablast) I cant test it fully but it was very cool to see 2gbps throughput on the router displayed. Anyway just wanted to see if anyone had any updates, thoughts or just wanted to add their experience here.
