I have the Cox HSI premier service and have always had great performance until recently.
I have a Motorola SB6141 3.0 DOCS modem which is fairly new. I have no issue connecting to the internet with the computer connected to the cable modem directly. When I connect to a router I get a connection for either 5-10 minutes or sometimes longer before I have to power cycle the router. This is with my old Linksys EA6500 and the new router I just purchased the Netgear R7000 one of the most expensive ones you can get. I also exchanged the net gear for another and it did the same thing. I had Cox come out 3 times. Each time they fixed the signal by adding attenuators. The 2nd Cox guy discovered my cable inside the house was run along the electrical cable. He ran a new line direct to the cable modem. This helped for about a day?? He also said that he was having the same issue with a net gear router but not as bad. He said to change the wireless channel from auto to a different channel till you find one that isn't crowded. But why do I drop the LAN connections?
Get this. All internet lights are on and LAN port lights are active. When the signal goes out the router still shows connected. Cable modem config shows plenty of signal strength etc. I am on MAC OSX Maverick. I used terminal to ping router and it only came back with 59 MB. Seems way to slow???
Any ideas? I totally think this is COX. I have set up many routers and home networks and have never had issues like this. I can't with to anything but ATT DSL WHICH IS MUCH SLOWER.
Please Help !
