Hello,
I just recently obtained a new modem from Cox in Gainesville. It is a NETGEAR CG300D-RG. When I looked at the specification sheet for it from Netgear's web site, it appears to support QoS among other settings that one would expect a standard CM/RG from a HSI provider.
However, it seems that it's neutered to the point that the most basic of advanced settings such as QoS (Quality of Service) and a configurable SPI firewall configurations, and other settings that would be comparable to a HSI provided gateway/modem from Comcast, for example. (I also maintain a Comcast account in a different geographical region.)
So my question is, are there other missing, hidden, "secret" pages or ways to access these possible settings?
I discovered that the device does listen on ports certain ports:
PORT STATE SERVICE VERSION 22/tcp closed ssh 23/tcp closed telnet 80/tcp open http? | http-auth: | HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized |_ Basic realm=Netgear |_http-title: HTTP 401 - Unauthorized 443/tcp open ssl/https? | http-auth: | HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized |_ Basic realm=Netgear |_http-title: HTTP 401 - Unauthorized 1900/tcp open tcpwrapped 5000/tcp open tcpwrapped 8080/tcp closed http-proxy 30005/tcp closed unknown
When I called Cox HSI Tech Support to inquire about these things mentioned above, I was initially told I needed to connect my computer directly to the device in order to access these settings because connecting over WiFi and accessing the device over WiFi would not allow one full access to all of the settings. Even though I explained to the representative that I was wired in, he insisted that I was doing something wrong, and said that he could not support me because my modem was online and that only the Home Networking group could support my inquiry.
So I waited for the Home Networking group (877-216-9014) and then was connected with a gentleman who seemed very unfamiliar with what QoS actually meant. I had to spend some time explaining to him in layman's terms what it was and then he basically said that it's no longer in this router. I asked why it was removed and he said that he did not know.
So Cox, why is it removed?
Also, this same representative told me that I could swap out my CM/RG for another device such as a ARRIS/Motorola SBG6580 to see if I have any success with that one.
Could someone from Cox support please reach out to me? I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
Chris
