I have a question that maybe some experts can answer. Last week working from home, I was connected to my home network remotely via OpenVPN. All of the sudden it stopped working and I noticed my chat user connected from home disconnected as well. When I got home, I seemingly had no internet. My router/firewall had an IP address still, but couldn't get anywhere. I rebooted both the modem and firewall at the same time and everything was restored.
Last night it happened again. When I got home this time thinking it was my firewall, I rebooted it. It came back online but could not get DHCP from the modem. I then rebooted the modem and then my firewall was able to get DHCP.
At this point, I think I have narrowed it down to either the modem or the remote end. The modem is pretty new, I bought it maybe a year or so ago (Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0).
Does this sound like a problem with my modem or something on the remote end that is reset by me rebooting my modem? I would hate to go and buy a new modem just to see if it is the modem without someone convincing me so I guess :)
