I just received a letter from Cox indicating that they are upgrading their phone system to VOIP in our area and that if I still want phone service, I would need to get one of their eMTA capable modems or modem/routers. I do not care for their equipment as some of it is ancient technology. I currently own my own modem and router and they work wonderfully. I am trying to find what options I might have and am considering the possibility of a VOIP service such as Vonage to replace Cox's phone service. The problem is that I then lose the "bundle" discount so it will most likely be slightly more expensive depending on the cost of what service I get. Has anyone else switched to a VOIP service and what is your experience?
Thanks,
JohnD
