Mini box

Hey guys, Hope y’all can help. I will be staying at my friends for a couple days who have no cable. Is it still true that the mini boxes will work anywhere given the cable line is free of filters and it’s connected? I’d like to take mine with me so I can still watch cable. Thanks!
