Hi all,
New here but I've read a bunch of posts regarding this and I really just want some clarification.
Just moved into a house last month and transferred my cox internet over. No tech needed to come out. Simply hooked my modem up to the cable outlet, plugged in my router and boom, everything is fine.
My house has 4 bedrooms and 3 living rooms (weird, i know) and each one has a coax cable outlet. While I am still moving things around and figuring out where things go I simply wanted to test each outlet to make sure it works. Nothing wrong with wiring etc. So today I went and took my modem and tried it in the master bedroom. Nothing. Tried it in the downstairs living room. Nothing.
So I called Cox and did some research online. Cox of course wants me to have a tech come out and "activate" the line which by my research have found this is really kinda bogus.
My questions :
1 - did i just get really lucky and pick the only outlet in the house that was "active" when I plugged my modem in initially?
2 - I understand from research that you only want 1 outlet to be "active" for internet, but how exactly is that distinguished? My understanding is that 1 line comes in from the pole to my house, then that line is split to each outlet in my home. What designates a line as the internet line?
Thanks all
↧
