Cox Telephone to Google Voice

I finally made a move I've been contemplating for a while and ditched Cox Telephone. I bought a cellular communicator for my 25 year old alarm system and saw no need to keep my landline. I've had my landline number for 35 years, so I wanted to keep it. Porting to Google Voice took 5 days because I had to port from Cox to a prepaid cell phone and then from the cell phone to Google Voice. The process went smooth. Now my old landline number still works and I can now receive texts on it and have visual voicemail sent directly to my cell phone when someone leaves a message. Best part is the Google Voice Monthly fee of $0. It did cost $41 upfront to port the number, $21 to buy a prepaid phone with 30 minutes on it and a one time Google Voice port fee of $20. I saved that and a little more on my first Cox bill after cancelling phone service.
