Hmm Truck roll required for 300mbps tier? "bundled dual band modem"

This weekend I received promo email to bump up my internet tier for $5 a month for the next 6 months, essentially putting me on Ultimate. I signed up online and looked like I was all set. A little while later I get an email saying I need to call in to process the order. So tonight I called in and the sales guy said it would require a truck roll for me to actually get the upgraded service, so that they could upgrade my modem. I'm currently on Premier and have a SB6183 modem. I told him I didn't think it was necessary as I am pretty sure the 6183 can handle that. He told me it couldn't and the tech would be bringing a "dual band" modem. He also said it would cost $75 for the tech to come out, but after words I should call in, and that he would but on a note to get the fee waived. ok... I also asked if I would then also have to rent the modem since currently I own my own Modem and my own AC1900 router. He said it was included in the $92 I was quoted. I said OK, but I don't really want the modem. We scheduled a time and they will be out next Sunday. A few minutes after I get off the phone, my modem reboots and I run a speed test and I get 330/33. So I'm not really sure whats going on. I already knew the modem I had would work. I don't really want a combo modem/router especially if at some point I get charged for it. Anyone ever run into this?
