I have had the Cox Contour package since July and it has been trouble-free except for one annoying issue. If we lose power, even for a second, the Cisco 9865HDC appears to be unable to do an HDMI handshake with my Samsung HDTV and so the television reports "Not Supported Mode" if the STB is turned on and of course if the STB is turned off it reports "No Signal". Power cycling the TV, disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable, or switching through all the TV inputs also does not force an HDMI handshake.
The only way to recover is to unplug the Cisco box power supply and then plug it back in to force a reboot. After a few minutes of cryptic messages on the front panel LED display a Cisco screen shows up on the TV and the STB reloads its configuration. When the front panel LED displays the correct time everything comes up fine when the Cisco is powered on. Of course, it still has to download the 2 week program guide, which it usually accomplishes over the next couple of hours.
Does anyone know of a less drastic way to recover from power glitch events? Is there a way to force the box to negotiate the correct HDMI mode with the TV? I suppose I could buy a UPS for the Cisco box to run on but that seems like overkill in my opinion. The URC-8820-MOTO remote does not seem to have anything that looks like a "mode" button but I wonder if it has a combination of buttons that might put the box into a compatible HDMI format.
Thanks for any thoughts on this,
Ender
