So I've been having problems with increasing packet loss in the last month or two. It's to the point where I can no longer play any online games. I've run some tests of my own that are showing upwards of 9-10% packet loss over the course of an hour.
I called Cox yesterday to have a tech come and look at things and he calls me today to let me know he's going to be a bit late and I swear to god he says to me "It sounds like it's just a virus on the line. I'll test it to find out if it's on the line inside or outside your house and I'll get rid of it."
I don't know if I want this person touching my equipment now. This isn't really a question, I just had to tell somebody who would appreciate the absurdity of what this guy told me over the phone.
Update:
He just left. When he got here he told me he looked at the lines outside (and I did hear him up on a ladder) and he says that he found the virus. Long story short, it seems like the guys who replaced my siding a few months ago did some damage to the cable outside the building and he replaced it. I will have to test if over the next few hours to know if it's been fixed or not, but it makes sense.
"Virus on the line"....
