[CA] Registering my old Comcast modem for new Cox service.

Hi all - After talking with Cox, Comcast, and Motorola (modem manufacturer), I'm turning to you for help. Previously, I lived in Pennsylvania, had Comcast service, and purchased a Motorola modem from Comcast. I moved from PA to California, where the service provider is Cox. I closed my Comcast service, packed up the modem and moved. Once in California, my roommate had Cox service already set up and was using a modem he purchased from Cox. Everything is going well until a few days ago when that modem completely stops working. I realize that I still have my modem from Pennsylvania. So, I pull it out, set it up see that everything is working and call Cox to have the service switched from my roommate's broken modem to my Motorola modem. The Cox agent takes the necessary S/N and HFC information and tells me that he can't set it up because the modem is still locked by the other provider. The agent told me to call Comcast and have it unlocked. [Long story about 4 calls to Comcast tech support, billing, back to tech, back to billing, etc.] Comcast told me that I actually have to talk to Motorola. I called Motorola and a helpful tech person tells me that the problem is with the service providers and that they need to talk to each other because one of them has the HFC Mac ID tied up when it shouldn't be (likely Comcast) and in order for Cox to use it, it needs to be released. Has anyone had a similar situation happen to them or know how I can work with the providers to use this modem that I own? Many thanks!
