I don't play online games atm, so this issue isn't a huge problem. I do get a lot of network errors though when trying to download from file lockers as a free user.
The downloads can take up to 6 hours and if I lose signal during that time, I lose the download.
I have Ultimate with Cox. Interestingly enough, I noticed this with my last computer and a completely different modem. At that time I played online games and it didn't happen as much, but it did indeed happen.
I have yet been able to look at my modem when it happens because the monitoring software I use doesn't warn me in time. I don't have to reset the modem or do anything like that though to re-establish connection.
I've been doing research the past few days but I can't make sense of any of the modem logs. I have a sb6180 modem.
I'm almost positive this is on cox's end. I've been looking through tons of threads but whenever other people get disconnects they have to re-cycle their modem or something.
The main way I noticed this was downloading from file lockers as a free user. I would download some stuff and then go to bed, only to wake up, and the download says "unknown network error".
I've also seen a few threads, where they say a few disconnects a day is normal for Cox residential and there's nothing you can do about it. I hope that is not the case :(
Any help is appreciated, ty.
EDIT: For all I know, it could be a normal thing with Cox that they don't fix unless you tell them to. Unless someone plays online games, they can get away with doing this. A few 20 second disconnects a day wont matter for browsing and what not. Even downloading would be fine unless you use free file lockers like me heh, which I bet no one in my neighborhood does.
Even if my neighborhood has online gamers, in most games you won't get completely disconnected for a 20 second spike. And most people can deal with a few disconnects a day and not really care. Sooooooo ya :P
EDIT 2 - almost 5 hours without a disconnect knock on wood. This is why I think it's a Cox cable thing. I think they know when I'm online and my habits, so when I'm not online they mess around with my connection lol. Bleh
