Goodbye Cox

I officially cancelled Cox today and swapped to At&t/DirecTV. As I was starting to near my cap frequently, any option with Cox would have cost loads more even off contract. At&t throws in an unlimitted cap when you bundle, gives you a $20 bundle discount and $10 cheaper internet in perpetuity. My cancelling experience is I first gave them a shot to give me a big enough discount to stay prior to ordering at&t, they essentially offered me ~$12 off my $105 Ultimate 300/30 package. I declined and called in to cancel today. After over 20 minutes on hold I finally got a customer rep and I explained I was cancelling because of the increased cost with the new cap and had swapped to At&t. He tried to talk me into discounts, but backed off pretty quickly once I said I was already under another contract. I expect he'd have offered bigger discounts than I was initially offered. One interesting thing is he knew At&t offered only 75/20 at my address, so they certainly have a DB of what competitors offer. Performance wise 75/20 has been indiscernible from 300/30 over the last 2 weeks except the one time I downloaded a 20 GB game, which was expected and easily planned for. Maybe in a couple years if At&t is still stuck at 75/20 and if Cox has rolled out better upstreams with better caps I'll reconsider, but for now Cox has lost my business with their crazy money grabs. Their prices are crazy compared to At&t right now.

Is this a mess? Status for Gigablast

Cox says my levels are off. I'm having slow speed tests. They had me remove this little metal circle thing on the coax cable. And the speeds are a little better. They had me remove my powered amplifier and my TV then tiles. So it's back on. What are YOUR thoughts as to what might be wrong based on this STATUS screen? Thanks in advance. Don

I don't ever remember that many uncorrectables in the past. I used to get at the low-end 750Mbps, and sometimes 900+... but in the last 3 weeks, it been closer to 200Mbps. Not sure if my signal is off, or something bigger in the area I live in (San Diego)... [att=1]

I have Cox internet 300/30. Will the Netgear CM500, 16 x 4, be a good choice? It's on their list of compatible routers. This is the fastest internet available in my neighborhood. No idea when gigablast will be available. Is this modem capable of delivering what I'm paying for? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone else out in the Winchester area (far western parts of Virginia) had the GigaBlast plan with Cox, and what their experiences with this plan have been. I've been on it for almost 8 months since they notified me of their offering it in my area. Here are my setting and Modem output, which I had a few questions about... Since I dont know much about the Transmit signal and such, could someone with more insight tell me if my numbers are high/low/ridiculous? Maybe someone from COX might see this and answer me if there are options to get better DL/UL, possibly different modem or if this is just what COX is allowing me to connect with. Pretty sure this modem can handle 8 Upstream connections though.

PHX Packet Loss via Level 3

Anyone else in Phx/AZ getting stupid excessive packet loss with routes through level 3? My sip trunks keeping going up and down due to it, and constant internet time outs. Speeds are definitely affected by it as well. I'm sure this is not a cox issue, more of a level 3 issue, but I'm just wondering if it's affecting anyone else so much that they notice. It's been like this for a month or so and it's getting stupid. It's always lag-157.bear2.Phoenix1.Level3.net (4.28.82.53)

[CT] Residents & gamers: how's latency & speed in Greater Hartford?

$

My wife is considering a move to Rocky Hill or Wethersfield (in the Cox-Manchester franchise). I'm a huge gamer and tech aficionado spoiled by Optimum (a.k.a. Altice/Cablevision) where service has been immaculate (200/35 with fantastic pings, straight A's on dslreports' speed test). * How's latency for gaming? In Overwatch, I get 50ms using the in-game "latency" counter. * How are speeds? Is there node oversaturation? * Is Gigablast truly available? The lookup tool said it's available but some posts on the forum say otherwise. The only other option is DSL through Frontier. They're nearly bankrupt so any Fiber/FTTH plans are halted. Sigh. Blizzard (the game's developer) has a public network testing tool: »us-looking-glass.battle.net/ Below are my stats when I run all three tests (Ping, MTR, Traceroute) with the options "United States" and "Overwatch" selected. Each test is shown twice because the first one is for their Los Angeles servers, and the second is for their Chicago servers. ISP hops are masked and the "Ping" test doesn't work for a lot of people. Power Levels and High Correctables

Note: Screenshot is after about 45 minutes after rebooting the SB8200. My power levels have been all over the place. I have no splits (DirecTv for service), so my modem run is from the DMARC to the modem direct (About 30 feet new quad shield RG6) with a ground block only in the DMARC. Run from DMARC to street is less then 10 feet (In conduit). I have two attinuators to bring my Up power up, but my down power seems high? Also, my 3.1 channel seems to have an insane amount of correctables. Almost 2mil within 45 seconds of powering on. As you can see, after 45 minutes, I have 292mil. Any thoughts or ideas? How to bring down power down without bringing up power up?

called cox late last night to inquire about upgrading from a Cisco DPQ3212 eMTA to the Arris TM3402 wanted to move to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem without having to pay a rental fee for a wireless gateway i have my own wireless router so i do not need a gateway so no need to pay additional rental fees so i figured since i have all services with cox the rental fee of a eMTA is waived since you need it for telephone use so the phone rep told me that my local cox solutions store has the ARRIS TM3402 eMTA i stock so i said cool i will call in the morning to inquire about it fast forward to this morning call up my local cox solutions store and yes they carry the modem and tell me all i have to do is come in and exchange the eMTA that i have now for the ARRIS TM3402 so i head over there exchange it he scans the new modem adds it to my account i get home call cox to make sure everything is good and then i find out after spending over 2 hours on the phone with tech support that i can not use this modem while being on any internet speed tier other then the gigablast tier long story short if i wanna upgrade at this moment to a docsis 3.1 modem i either have to pay additional rentals fees or buy my own or upgrade to the gigablast tier so basically there is no way to get a docsis 3.1 eMTA in my situation without spending additional money just thought i would share this on here in case anyone else was thinking about doing this just saving you a bunch of time and headaches and i hope this changes really soon

[Modem] High corrected and uncorrectables; ignore?

$

First, I had a power surge come down an ungrounded coaxial and take out my last modem. Cox paid for damages and put in a grounding block. New modem is SB6183 and I keep watching corrected and uncorrectables continue to climb. The screenshot is about a month. Should I worry about these? I have zero issues with bandwidth. I am investigating DNS issues for lagging web browsing; may be my new router though. One T-3 error every 4-6 days according to modem log. I have no splitters and no amps connected. I do have one F-Pin coupler. Could that have been damaged after the surge and cause this?

Docsis 1.1 modem no longer supported

I have been on the cox network with a docsis 1.0 modem for 4 years now. In June or July 2017 Cox stated I need to upgrade my modem to a Docsis 3.0 or higher otherwise I could not get the promotion and keep my bill low. After showing my unhappiness with this policy and telling them I want to cancel my cox account, the cox rep was able to bypass the system and give me the promotion and allow me to keep my Docsis 1.1 modem, since they did not want to lose me as a customer. That promotion ended last month and now Cox is telling me again I need to change my modem to a Docsis 3.0+. They are stating they cannot bypass the system now and said I need a new modem. My modem works perfectly fine and the speed is great. They are stating that giving me the promotion again this year wont work with my modem since the promotion will downgrade my speed from Premier to preferred and making this change with my current modem will not work. Is it true that the system cannot be bypassed even though they did it last year?

Doing some remodeling and need to know about temporary cable drop.

We will be having some remodeling done in our home , and will not have any place to sit the tv or internet equipment inside the house . However , I COULD set it all up out in the garage. From the Cox cable box on the outside of the house , it would be a run of about 20 feet to a safe location in the garage. Question is , is there anything that I need to watch out for when doing this? It should simply be disconnecting the cable that runs into the house ( from my side of the drop ) and attaching a temporary cable running into the garage to a splitter for the set top box and the networking equipment , correct ?

Does Gigablast with the Technicolor CGM4141 support Moca 2.0 (and TiVO 4K)? Is there a Docsis 3.1 Moca 2.0 bonded compatible cable modem that works with COX? (Note: I don't need Wifi or Phone, just Moca and Docsis 3.1) Arris makes the TG3452 and DG3450 but they are not on Cox certification list. I want Giagablast and Need Moca...any help?

Hi. I just got Gigablast and most of my old speed test sites can't handle the new speeds. Cox says use speedtest.net instead of their own internal sites. Can anyone recommend a good test site that can have GigaBlast speeds? Thanks in advance. Don

[AZ] Cable Card and TUNING Adapter Box

I continue to wonder why Cox can not come up with a cable card system that does not require an additional box to provide full cable tv service. When I tried using Tivo with it, I spent many hours with no success. As I consider other connectivity approaches, I hate the thought of having to connect one more piece of ancient electronic crap into my system. I understand that some cable companies don't need to use the "box". Will Cox ever make this mo bettah?
