I am desperately trying to troubleshoot an issue with my Cox business account that has me stumped. I have an IPSEC VPN tunnel terminating with a vendor in Atlanta. The tunnel builds just fine, and internet traffic seems to behave fine for the most part when only ping is run over the tunnel. However, if I start sending more "interesting" traffic over it (like data backup from a server), we start getting horrible packet loss for incoming/outgoing internet packets. I thought maybe I was running into an upload cap, but even a cap on the tunnel didn't help much. Firewall looks fine otherwise - CPU/mem load seems entirely normal. When I called support, I had the traffic running over the tunnel, and the tech observed a large amount of signal loss and line noise.
It seems as if this started happening only recently, as we've had multiple IPSEC tunnels running fine on our Cox pipe for a while. Is there any way this could possibly be a modem or wiring issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
