It is going to hurt them in the long run.
TL;DR: Cox should provide unlimited data with television subscriptions.
I subscribed to Cox Gold bundle on November 1st -- I was mainly interested in a cable card (for Tivo), but ultimately picked up a Contour 2 - Six tuner DVR and two mini clients.
Cable card + Tuning adapter didn't work right (after a few different runs to the store even). Spent a few hours on the phone with support. Some knew about cable cards, some had no clue. Never was able to get all channels working, even with a great phone rep. Even exchanged the Tivo -- no dice.
Gave into their Contour 2 setup. Nice DVR (thanks Comcast), service worked well.
After a week or so -- realized that 4K streaming via Netflix would get me close or over the 1TB cap each month. Called into retentions to ask about any offset that they could do (AT&T is competition here with gigapower / 1Gbps unlimited) for unlimited data. Even thought about getting rid of TV/Phone and keeping TV only, using AT&T for internet.
Retentions (great truthful rep) mentioned that his hands are completely tied. He couldn't even change my "campaign" to Bronze or Silver -- and that I can only get a certain campaign when I initially sign up. If I changed to TV only -- they couldn't even get me "Contour TV" promo price for $65. Also said "well everyone is going to caps soon".
While he is mostly correct about caps coming, current competition in my area says otherwise for the time being -- not to mention AT&T makes all of their tiers "Unlimited" if you subscribe to TV.
This afternoon I walked into a store, walked out with a canceled account.
I enjoyed the experience -- Tivo/cable card set aside, it was a great experience.
Cox -- start competing. Enough of this stuck up crap -- you are not the only provider out there. Start giving your customers what they want when they ask. If a customer is about to cancel due to data caps, fix the problem.
Oh well -- i'll take my $193.57 ( w taxes/fees) elsewhere. Ordered AT&T last night, they were here 30 minutes early at 10:30 this morning.
