I've noticed the past several days that my Cox download speeds have taken a significant hit. I'm on the grandfathered Premier plan, so I should be getting around 180Mbps max download speed. I'm currently maxing out in the 60-70 Mbps range.
I have a SB6190 modem connected to a TP-Link TL-R600VPN wired gigabit VPN router. I upgraded to the SB6190 modem several months ago and had been getting expected ~180 Mbps download speeds with the modem connected to the wired router up until 7-10 days ago. I've power recycled the modem numerous times with no improvement. If I take the TP-Link wired router out of the mix and go straight from the SB6190 modem to the Ethernet port of my Windows 10 gaming PC, I do get the expected download speeds. I just ran Speedtest and Cox Speed Test with and without the router and got the following results..
With router: Speedtest: Ping 20ms. Download: 52.96Mbps. Upload: 10.90Mbps
Cox Speed Test: Download: 27Mbps Upload: 12Mbps
Straight to PC: Speedtest: Ping 52ms. Download: 172.43Mbps Upload: 10.11Mbps
Cox Speed Test: Download: 107Mbps Upload: 11Mbps
Why would my Cox download speed drop like this going through the wired router but then show expected speeds straight to a PC? I've been into the configuration screen for the TP Link router and everything looks normal. It's running the latest firmware. I disconnected all other devices from the router except for the gaming PC to eliminate the possibility that something else on my network is causing the speed drop.
