About 9 months ago I had Cox Cable replace my Directv tv service, for which they had to run new wire because of what the Directv techs did to the pre-wired Cox wiring. Since then I've had Cox techs out 8 times because of slow internet and/or cable issues. Each time they have found a problem that the previous tech missed, anywhere from a loose connection to too strong of a signal. I thought it was all finally fixed until about a month ago when we started to get good rains in my area(Cave Creek). Since then, my internet speeds have randomly fluctuated, going from 150-170 down to 50-80. Happens every few days for 4-5 hours, usually in the late afternoon.
I've had Cox internet for about 15 years and have always received >/= what I've paid for in the terms of advertised speeds. The only time in those years where I've had slow speeds was approx 10 years ago when Cox had issues with a "node"(not sure if that's the proper term) in the East Valley or Eastern AZ, too long ago to remember exactly. Something that DSLR and Ping Plotter helped me find. So I've always had reliable, better than expected speeds until I got rid of Directv and Cox reworked 90% of the house. The tech today told me that I should be ecstatic when I receive better than advertised speeds and should expect to receive the 50-80, even when I'm paying for 150. He said wireless isn't reliable, even though for the past 15 years I've always received above advertised speeds using a wireless router. He also told me I should ignore everything my modems Event Log shows, all the errors, etc. Really?
I find it hard to believe that I've just been "lucky" the past 15 years in receiving such speeds. All of my friends have had the same experience as I have....higher than advertised speeds. Can someone please tell me if I'm correct in believing that there is something wrong, since I've had zero internet issues until cable was installed? I would like to be able to have an educated platform to "argue" from the next time I get such a tech.
