So, ive noticed whenever I am downloading a file, either via web browser or usenet, my download speeds never really go above a transfer rate of ~4-6MB/s
These used to be around 14-16MB/s
I have the 150/10 package from Cox.
I called Cox and had a tech out before, but they said signals seem fine and they are testing against speedtest.net. I did multiple speed tests from multiple sites a minute ago:
Test computer is hardwired over GigE, Modem>Router>Computer
DSLReports: 198.9 megabits/s
Speedtest.net: 179.40 Mbps
Cox Speed Test: 21 Mbps
Testmy.net (singlethreaded): 20.6 Mbps
speedof.me: 15.06 Mbps
Openspeedtest.com: 95 Mbps
bandwidtplace.com: 22.94 Mbps
Ive watched task manager and its not spiking CPU, Memory, Disk, or Network usage, so I don't think its a computer problem. This is also happening across multiple computers.
Most of the speedtests are matching around what kinds of speeds im seeing actually downloading something. Its extremely frustrating because Cox is claiming there is no problem. I do understand that speeds will vary based on the server im downloading from, but Im thinking Microsoft, Google, Ubuntu, etc should be easily able to maintain above a 4MB/s transfer rate.
What can I do to try fixing this? Im having a hard time paying for 150M and getting what is closer to 30M in real world usage. For that I can go back to Centurylink. I went to Cox for the speeds, which I got for a while but now its just gone to crap.
