We are having multiple reconnects per day, but I don't see anyway I can find out from my DPC3010 what the reason is for the disconnects (ie, theres no logs). We also were getting about 30Mbps on our preferred internet account. I just recently bumped our account up to preferred 100Mbps and now we're seeing occasionally above 30, but never 40Mbps. Downstream power levels range from -7.6 to -11.3 with SNR of 35.5 to 38.6. Upstream is 45.7 to 47.7.
Honestly, the coax wiring for this house looks like a mess. None of it is in-wall, its all done in the crawl space with holes drilled in the floor for the coax to come through. I believe there's some sort of powered amp or something somewhere, as there's a power adapter in the entertainment center which sends 12vdc back down the coax. If I unplug the power adapter, the cable modem won't connect. The house had cable phone at one point, but doesn't anymore. There was cable tv at one point, but not anymore. There's also been at least three satellite dishes, one currently in use. It appears that the main Cox cable drop coming from the utility pole goes into the plastic box labeled 'Cox Phone'. I don't know if the coax wiring for the satellite dish(es) was kept isolated from the coax wiring for the Cox service.
Is there a way to determine from the power level/snr numbers if the issue is mainly due to my wiring?
Are there any good options for sorting out the wiring mess or do I just avoid it by running a new run from the cox phone box to my cable modem?
There's a ~3" cylinder inline with the coax coming out of the cox phone box, which can be seen in the attached photo. Could this be the partner to the power adapter? is it necessary to work with whatever is in the Cox side of that Cox phone box or should I remove it?
Thanks
Keith
