Among the many other household possessions needed to be replaced after last summer's flood is a TV for my bedroom, which will most definitely be wall mounted higher than 40 inches. I'm considering Sony so I ambled into the local Best Buy. When asked by the salesman for any clarifying features I stated that HD would be fine. "Why not 4K"? he asked. "Because, for one, I don't wish to pay a premium for it" (living on Social Security soberly limits many tech fantasies), "besides, there isn't a whole lot of 4K content. That, and I don't want to risk going over a data cap while streaming at a twice the resolution".
His response was that I had cell phone data usage and 4K visual content gobbling confused, that before long most content will eventually be at or very close to 4K, and it shouldn't be a concern, since they're different and 4K viewing shouldn't effect something like a Cox account at all.
It didn't take long for me to realize that we didn't see eye to eye on this matter. But maybe I'm mistaken, and as it happens there's a Cox store next door to this Best Buy where I might get the straight scoop. Unfortunately I got there about five minutes after they'd closed.
I'm under the impression that if I so choose to stream in 4K I should be aware and mindful of how much additional data this streaming will consume. Back when we had AT&T we were always well within their limit, even with 6 to 8 hours of daily combined WiFi internet usage (we don't do file sharing or download movies). Add to that, by resuming our last Cox bundle tier and the fact that there are months worth of watching to catch up on since last August's floods, including Netflix and Amazon Prime, the added cost of a 4K TV now wouldn't make too much economic sense. But once up to date on viewing the various shows and movies that we've missed, and taking into account our past internet habits, it's not too terribly difficult to foresee easily approaching or maybe even exceeding Cox' current 1TB cap if we're not vigilant with 4K consumption.
So please, help settle this current quandary for me?
