Signed up for Cox last year and coming to the end of my new customer pricing. Dealt with major issues for the first three or four months, missing four days of work to try and get fixed, repeated truck rolls, missed appointments, the usual nonsense, and finally an FCC Complaint to get resolution. Issue was a bad feeder cable, affecting dozens of units in my condo complex, not just me. It took an actual engineer with TDR to isolate and fix it; once I learned this I talked to my neighbors and learned they all had issues with Cox for years, both video and internet, to the point that most walked away and got U-Verse and/or Dish. Nobody got it fixed before me, incidentally.....
.... in the midst of this one of their reps sold me an upgrade to Premier, from Essentials, with the understanding that I'd have a two year contract, at $64.99. This was the ONLY reason I agreed to the upgrade. When I got the first bill I learned it was the "price lock guarantee" and not as advertised. Called, it was removed, and they told me the account was notated, call back in 12 months and we'll honor.
Called them up last week, asked for retentions/loyalty, and they refuse to honor. They concede that the account was notated as I was told but say that offer is "no longer available." Everything they can offer me is an increase over what I'm paying now. Then, the kicker, I ask for a supervisor, explain the service issues part of the story, tell him I can't afford nearly $100/mo for internet, and I'm snidely told, "You either need to budget it or go to the library with the rest of the poor people, because that's what it costs."
Hung up on him at that point, rather than respond in kind. Wish I had placed the cancellation order then and there, so he'd take the numbers hit, but I was too stunned to think that way. Now I have AT&T order pending, install next Saturday (the 18th). $40 for 45/5, not 150/10, but it will more than meet my needs.
Is there any way to salvage Cox at this point? Will they play ball when you call to actually cancel rather than simply to inquire about deals? After the treatment I got the last time I want a real offer, match AT&T or I'm walking. So long and thanks for all the fish.
