ipv6 connection type question

Is 4to6 ipv6 the only connection type that I can get with my current setup? I apologize for kindergarten understanding of this stuff. Just had an in house Cox technician here who could not answer my question as to whether or not ipv6 is enabled at my service location in Lafayette, LA. He was able to get an engineer on the phone who confirmed that it is in fact enabled. I recently switched modems from an Arris SB6183 to a Netgear CM600. The CM600 was showing provisioned as "ipv4 only". I have reactivated the 6183 thinking it could be the firmware preventing ipv6, because the most recent cox approved firmware for the CM600 (V1.01.06) is a couple of versions behind available firmwares for the modem. My 6183 firmware is D30CM-OSPREY-1.5.2.5-GA-00-NOSH with an ipv4 address. When I set my Netgear r8000 router to auto detect ipv6 internet type is configures to 6to4. I am still not fully confident that ipv6 is active at my service location. I would greatly appreciate anyone who can shed some light on my situation hardware, firmware, or system wise.
