[OH] Fighting the Data Cap

In all honesty I believe absolutely nothing will come from complaining / fighting this. But for the first time in my life I am going to give it the good old college try anyways. If you are like me and do not believe anyone will listen, please know that I truly feel the same way, but urge you to consider helping. I have concluded that there is literally nothing else I can do. Cox has a monopoly in Parma, Ohio. Cox can go $*@& themselves. Its on! Please give me ideas of other places to complain. From www.stopthecap.com I went to the BBB and filed a complaint. I feel like complaining anywhere and everywhere now. Even if it doesn't work, $(#@ COX and their data caps! My BBB complaint: Cox Communications is arbitrarily and unfairly limiting the usage of my high speed internet connection by imposing absurd overage charges for data usage. Fact 1: Cox Communications serves customers in many states and cities in this country. Cleveland Ohio is the only city where overages are being charged. My opinion of this fact is that it is not fair to consumers in Cleveland Ohio. Fact 2: Data overages have not existed until recently. My opinion of this fact is that I have paid for service for more than 8 years and it is unfair to now impose unrealistic arbitrary limits on my usage. This is not fair to consumers. Fact 3: Around August 2016, Cox Communications has changed the service tier of my service, Ultimate HSI. They have in effect doubled the download speed and cut the newly enforced data cap in half from 2TB to 1TB. It is my opinion that this is both bad business practice and very clear that this is anti-consumer. Fact 4: In October of 2016, Cox Communications increased the data cap on all tiers EXCEPT for the Ultimate tier. The Ultimate tier is the most expensive tier. The data cap from Ultimate was reduced from 2TB to 1TB and now all other tiers have been increased to 1TB. I am of the opinion that as a high consumption heavy user, I have been paying extra for the Ultimate tier for over 5 years as it accommodates my usage. With these arbitrary anti-consumer changes, having the fastest tier now punishes heavy users the most as they were heavy users before and have a internet speed that is capable of surpassing the monthly data cap in less than 24 hours. Fact 5: As a consumer located in Parma Ohio I cannot purchase residential grade internet service from any other providers. The next closest option is AT&T U-Verse which can only offer about 20Mbps download speeds to my house. I have 150Mbps currently on Cox's Ultimate tier, but will soon have 300Mbps speed. AT&T U-Verse also has a 1TB data cap. I am of the opinion that there is not collusion between AT&T and COX, but instead COX has determined that consumers in this area have no choice but to pay more for less service as they know we have no options. I am writing this complaint as I believe wholeheartedly that Cox Communications is now operating as an anti-consumer company that is abusing its monopoly on high speed internet in Parma Ohio. As a consumer, I have no choice but to pay for overages that never existed before. It only makes matters worse that Cox has chosen the Cleveland Ohio (which includes Parma Ohio) as the only market to enforce the data overages. Consumers in my area have to pay arbitrary overages while other Cox customers do not have to, even though we have the same service from the same company. I believe the other areas likely have less of a local monopoly on internet services and aren't stuck like I am in Parma Ohio. To be quite frank, I would be willing to pay up to 25% more per month for the 150Mbps/20Mbps Ultimate tier with no data cap. That would be $125 a month instead of $99.99 per month that I pay now. This would net an effective increase of 25% profit / revenue for Cox Communications for essentially providing the same exact level of service I received at this time last year. I would be more agreeable to paying $125 a month for the new Ultimate tier of 300Mbps/20Mbps with no cap or a realistic cap that matched this level of service. 5TB - 10TB data cap. Technology gets faster and cheaper. Cox is instituting these arbitrary data caps at a time when their own bandwidth costs are at an all time low.
