After speaking with what I can only imagine must have been a very confused level 2 tech rep, who told me that I could not get a dhcpv6 assignment from my modem. and that the modem would not concurrently assign ipv4 and ipv6.. I got off of the phone got on wireshark and what to do you know, icmpv6/ router advertisements..
reset the modem and I was able to pull a ipv6 address concurrently with ipv4. as expected of a dual stack setup... 'what in the world are they telling their tech reps?" here is the rub however,
the address was a ipv6/128 ' a single address subnet for point to point connections' and not a ipv6/64. this breaks several other ipv6 features as well... Its strikes me as very strange that they are advertising ipv6 availability with only a subset of the full feature-set.
I am looking forward to many of the ipv6 improvements for my home network especially being able to do away local NAT.
I am hoping to talk to someone that can tell me if Cox plans on offering IPV6 , If so what there time frame for full deployment looks like, and if not.. what other isps might I consider?
strikes me as strange they are advertising full deployment already, without being in conformance..
