Your opinion on Nighthawk Router Standalone / VS Combo

I know this comes down to personal preference, but I am looking for opinions. I own http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-AC1900-DOCSIS-C7000-100NAS/dp/B00ZUPOF7Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461866384&sr=8-1&keywords=c7000 for a couple of weeks now. I have had some issues with wireless, firmware perhaps, I am not sure. Of course since it's a combo unit, I don't control firmware updates. It is here i begin to question this unit and wonder if i should go for the standalone Modem http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-CM600-100NAS-DOCSIS-Speed-Speeds/dp/B01621M1S4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1461866384&sr=8-3&keywords=c7000 and Nighthawk router http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-AC1900-Gigabit-Router/dp/B00F0DD0I6/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461866609&sr=1-1&keywords=nighthawk instead. I have a few days left i can return my setup here now and i am looking into the standalone versions above. I am also wondering, could the current setup be newer by design and as such it ultimately would work better under the best firmware and into the future. Very confusing and im looking for some suggestions on what you would do. I am willing to spend the extra money to get separate setup, yet i just don't want to go backwards by making the wrong decision which i am sure you guys fully understand. Thank you so very much and I look forward to your thoughts. -- Videocard: AMD Radeon HD 5970 Processor: i7 930 Mainboard: P6X58D Memory: Corsair VoyagerGT 6GB(3 x 2GB)
