[ALL] Internet Speeds and Data Caps

I just dropped my cable TV package from my cox plan. I am now looking at what to do about my Internet package. I impulsively upped to the ultimate tier when I dropped cable TV. Now I wonder if that is really necessary. We use Streaming Services s couple hours an evening probably longer on the weekend and I do a lot of web surfing. On the upload side, just a few megs a day in email and Dropbox uploads. So, just days after I made the change to Ultimate, our area went to 300/30. Essentially triple my previous service tier. I really made the change because I didn't want to continuously go over the data limit as I had in the past. The only time i notice the extra speed is when I do a speed test. Cox never said anything but I assumed that was because I was paying them nearly $300 a month with my TV/Phone/Internet package. Several of my coworkers have received warnings from Cox about being over their data plan. Now I see that some time since I last checked, they have raised to plan data for all of the tiers. The last time I checked, the premier tier was a 300 gig and I was running about 325 each month. I don't see that my usage will go up significantly without TV as we really didn't use it before and most likely no one would even know it was gone if the boxes were still sitting under the TVs. My thoughts are that probably for most of us cord cutters, anything over 50 Mbps is really plenty of speed and the only reason to go up to a higher tier is for a higher data limit. Besides impressing my friends and family, why do I need the Ultimate tier? Relatively cheap insurance to have it if i ever need it?
