[ALL] Cox Business phone wiring/connection questions

I am a Cox Business customer in Orange County When we first had intent and phone connected the business was a construction site, and the phone cable(s) were literally hanging from the ceiling so never formally connected. We are now (close to) up and running and I want to get the telephone connected Situation: There are 2 x Cat5E cables in the ceiling space (above the hardlid) I put Cat5E ethernet connecters on them - T568B I then placed a coupler on the cable (http://www.microcenter.com/product/332522/Telco_RJ-45_Female_to_Female_Coupler) I then connected my phone (RJ 1) to the coupler (RJ45) (http://www.vtechphones.com/products/product_detail/1601) Problem: When I connect one of the cables the phone on the base station says - NO LINE When I connect the other cable the phone on the base station says - Handset 1. I took this to mean something was working...... But no dial tone.... and I can't call out (obviously) I know there are quite a few points of failure with the above. Any thoughts/hints from anyone as to what to look at? I am happy to get Cox/Contractor to come in, but we are under huge time crunch and I do want to save a few $s if possible. Areas of concern that I can think of: 1 - Something at the back end central phone board for the shopping center - not connected 2 - My Ethernet connector is not done correctly 2a - Wired incorrectly (I.e. not working) 2b - Pin outs incorrect 3 - The coupler is causing a problem 4 - The VTech phone is the problem Any help appreciated
