Have to restart modem several days a week

I have a Motorola SB6141 modem. It's directly connected to the coax and then to my Apple Airport Extreme router (latest version). I have no splitters in place. Several days a week I wake up to no internet connection. I can usually tell because the Chromecast on my bedroom TV is flashing to indicate a problem. Restarting the modem always fixes it. I'm just wondering what's causing it? I would estimate this happens 3 days a week or so. I'm in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Speeds are pretty good most of the time. Any thoughts on what I can do? I so hate calling Cox tech support.
