I recently had to drop to the 15mbps essential plan from the 50mbps "preferred" plan because I simply can no longer afford it after 10 years of price increases and retention will no-longer negotiate with me (not paying $700+ per year for just internet)
I figured this would not be a big problem because right now it is just me using it and after looking at my bandwidth graphs, I never went anywhere near 50mbps, rarely if ever going over 10mbps. I also lived for years with just 3mbps before docsis2 came about.
But now on the exact same equipment, same cablemodem, same router, same diagnostic numbers, I get funky behavior.
Videos will stall or skip if I am watching something and browsing at the same time.
Note this also happens on the wired lan connection, it's not wifi.
Again, I cannot stress this enough, nothing else has changed, just one week went from Preferred to Essential.
It's like initial connections are being "slapped down" on the cox side and taking longer to respond.
My router graphs don't show me going anywhere near 15mbps.
Note that videos do stream just fine once connected and/or past initial web page loading.
Is this a marketing technique to force people to upgrade?
