[AZ] Multiple amplifiers?

Just upgraded to have the complete bundle with internet, TV, and phone. Had a tech out all day to set it up after he said the signal was poor to work with. 3 contour set top boxes, 1 cable modem, and 1 phone emta. Everything is working but I went from having one amplifier to having three. Is this normal? The little enclosure box outside is quite hot from all the heat generated in there. The line is coming in and being split with a three way splitter with one going straight to the emta phone modem and the other two going to two Antronix MRA 15db amplifiers. Both amplifiers have splitters attached to their output which connects to the set top boxes and cable modem. The tech also added an Antronix RRA 10db return amplifier right behind the cable modem as well and this unit is also pretty hot. He told me it was the best he could do and that there was a lot of loss inside the house wiring. He replaced the house drop with a new RG-11, ran a new RG-6 for the emta, and replaced every coax connector and wall plate with new ones but said he couldn't find a way to get it working without all the amplifiers. I have had Cox at various places I have lived at for many years and never had more than one amplifier, let alone three. Is this really an acceptable way to go?
