On cox's website, the only 16x4 modem listed is the Motorola SB6183. I heard the Netgear CM500 should work, even though it's not listed. Well I gambled and bought one.
The modem powered up and connected to the Cox HSI service without problem. THe next step was registering my new modem at http://www.cox.com/activate
Under the list of supported Netgear modems, my model (CM500) wasn't listed. As an alternative, I picked the Motorola SB6183 since it has the same downstream capability (16.) I double checked the MAC# and S/N#, then clicked the registration button. The webpage jumps to dialog-box telling you the registration process takes up to 15 minutes (with a convenient countdown showing there.) I thought the page hanged, but after 7 long minutes, my web browser advanced to the next page informing me my internet is ready.
The only funny thing, after my modem swap, I can't seem to access htpp://www.cox.com anymore (all other websites appear to work correctly!)
