Over the last several months my cox connection has been unreliable. Just out of nowhere, the cable modem suddenly turns into a black hole, and only power cycling seems to fix it.
This happened with a Cisco modem and not one but TWO motorola SB6141's (I also changed routers three times, and even tried different firmwares on each.) Packets from either end (the cable co or mine) go into the modem but not back out. I can't access the cable modem diagnostic page during this time, and the CS reps report that they can't see my modem (and it times out.) However they can issue a reset command and the modem does reset when they do so, fixing the problem.
Trouble is, whatever I was doing was interrupted (typically playing a game or something) and I have to wait for the modem to go through a full reset before I can do anything again. Extremely frustrating.
Already had Cox come out and look at the line, and they can't find anything that would cause it, except that the cable guy noted that he saw some kind of noise on the line but he wasn't sure where it was coming from (except that he knew it was coming from somewhere outside of my premises.)
Anybody have any idea what this might be? Again, happened with THREE different modems, and two different brands of modems.
